Valvetrain Chatter

Well tomorrow I'm doing an oil change I'm going to look. I might pull the valve covers I haven't decided. It's not hard so whatever.

I have been told that these are indeed stock replacements http://www.ebay.com/itm/271502809842

I understand GM doesn't make them anymore but that doesn't mean the aftermarket doesn't. So there's that.

Matt seems to think that it's fine because cam cars make more lifter noise. To me it just doesn't sound healthy. AND it runs like a raped ape, there is no indication that something's broken. yet. lol.

SO I'm on the fence. I can see the rocker/spring scenario. I can also see the lifter scenario. I would rather KNOW before I purchase anything. It's really pissing me off that it's so ambiguous and hard to diagnose.

I'd give anything, and I do mean anything, to go back and keep the blue car. I can't describe to you how well that car was taken care of. It was truly a gem among all of the gp's I've been around.

I always think hmm maybe I shouldn't have modded lol. I'm at the point where I'm just wasting money trying to fix my ticking issue. New lifters, pushrods already installed. It's not the rockers because I switched the rears with the front and still the noise persists. Short of popping the valve springs off or heads I'm clueless.

I'm honestly leaning to agree with you Nick because the trans is breaking and I'm gonna waste money I could be saving for that trying to chase a noise. And honestly, priorities. Bad trans I ain't goin nowhere.

Im interested in the outcome of this as well.Ive got valvetrain noise after my xp install.Everything is correct tolerance wise, but sounds like a sewing machine:p Hope you get it figured out brando.

yeahhhh mine sounds kinda like a sewing machine too. that's a good idea of the sound lol. oh well. i'm just gonna drive it. runs like a beast and doesn't knock.

You should just drive it.

Run thicker oil.

/end

Get an oil pressure gauge and try the opposite.

It sounds like the lifters might be starving for oil when the oil is cold, thus harder to pump.

I ran 0W-20 for a while and still made plenty of oil pressure.

When he showed me the sound the other weekend the car was fully warmed up from the drive out here.
