Best winter only tires.

Just ordered some General Altimax Artics for 114.38each from TireBuyer.com
About the best deal I could find for what is in stock now and not hugely overpriced.
Consumer reports listed them as number 2, under Michelin Ice x, for 2013.

I didn't want to last minute it. This way I can catch a lull and drop them off with no hurry

Did you check out discounttiredirect? They are listed for $111, at least for 225/60/16's. That price is shipped and they actually are offering a $50 Visa card mail in rebate with purchase.

Yep.....tough finding 225/55r17.
I got the 50 rebate too.

i like buying from discount tire direct, but from their ebay store. you seem to catch a little bit more of a deal that way.

^ This.

I ran front snow's on my civic when I was young and stupid; I wanted the rear end to be loosey-goosey.

Being older and wiser, I would recommend doing all 4.

Technically yes, but you better be damn sure your rear tires have tons of tread left and are not junk summer tires if you want to run just 2.

Because the back end of the car will just whip out if you have new snows on the front and bald or crappy rear tires.

I have brand new continentals on it. The Eco all seasons or whatever. They aren't summer and I ran them all winter last year. Not even 6k on them yet. I was just thinking about picking up some snow tires I didn't have any issues just want more grip cause the town of waynesburg doesn't plow

Any snow/winter tire will way outperform an all season tire. I have had Blizzaks-expensive and will wear very fast in warm temps, Michelin Arctic X-ICE-expensive, very quiet, good performance, and Goodyear unidirectional high performance V rated Ultra Grips.

Besides the winterforce's I've used a few other off brands from eBay on my 06 charger with great results. I paid an average of about $100 a tire for 18" so 16 or 17" should be around 80$ or so. Just check ebay or Amazon

Well the rack has the Altima Artics in stock now for 104, 10 cheaper than what I paid. But considering their inflated shipping, I paid the same.
Just have to get them mounted on my new winter bronze MB Weapon hooptie wheels.

your junk wheels are MB weapons? why not the stock ones?

I couldn't justify new winter tires on questionable chrome flaking air seepin torque stars.
I boned up and ordered the tires thinking I was going to use them. After some thought It was a OH Hell No moment.
So I was stuck back in the 225/55/17 category. The weapons are light and cheap($125 each).

More sidewall in winter will probably be a good thing

So I was going to buy a set of steelie rims used and then get some snow tires mounted up. What happens with the TPMS system? Will I need to buy and install some new TPMS sensors into the used rims? Any programming necessary?

I feel like some places won't install a tire without the sensors.
