Cloning your PCM?



A true clone is tough to do... word is there are some gm tools out there that can set the correct serial numbers on the pcm... I imagine dhp would do it if we had the correct code for it.

As far as cloning the tune... duh.
 
Working on doing exactly this for jayroca here pretty soon.....
I have s1x vs his xp cam and he has ported heads but the rest is all the same gen5 headers 60# injectors stock tb so it should be pretty easy to do.

Since i also have a seperate pcm for pump gas he might get that one first depending on if hes ready for e85. This way he wont have to switch injectors or anything just simple swap pcm to e85 or pump gas and swap belt and pulley. Very nice way to go about it take like 10 min and a few simple tools.

I have hpt and once his car is buttoned up well try clone both my pcms
 
With hpt it will cost more money to program the 2nd pcm. You have to first read the 2nd pcm, then licence it, then do a write entire with whatever file you want.

Of if you clone it enough, it'll just get dumber and dumber each time.

But cloning the tune clones all the data still right? I want to keep my stock PCM stock and just get another PCM to tinker with so if something goes wrong, or I send it out and the tune isn't working for my car, I have a quick swap backup.

yes for all intensive purposes, done right, you end up with something that the car/diagnostic equipment cant tell the difference in.

im using a 97 ssei sc/65e file on a 97 bonnie sse with the hydrostatic 60e PCM with just some changes.

as an aside...one local's 02 gt had an odd hardware number pcm and constant knock intermittent idle missfire issues. (when swapping everything including the motor doesnt change anything you look elsewhere...) switching to a 7440 cured all ills. odd thing is he bought it nearly new, completely stock. so always check your pcm numbers
