Spent allll day cleaning buffing and waxing. Before my trip to Mexico. Figured I would give her some love before leavinf

Showed the young-un how to use the PC. Used the monster Meguiars black to put some Ultimate liquid wax on my sisters Outback.
Takes way too much product to prime and work. I will say it makes the application and removal incredibly easier.
I have to get some LC 5.5 flat pads for wax.
 


He is using the edge of the pad to catch the 1/2" angle from black to silver.
Yep he got all the warnings and don't drop the microfibers before hand.
Amazing he handled it pretty dern good

The ULW doesn't stain plastic and with a previous coat of Collinite 845 the black really looked fresh
 
what can happen is the top of the buffers plastic part with the hook and loops on it, where the pads sticks to, the pad drops down, the plastic edge hits paint. and whoops.

and you never want to run the buffer without full contact of the pad and the paint. the pads will sling product, or fall apart.
 
Yep Scotty ,I hear ya and told him all the possible oh-hell-no scenarios.
That soft buff pad has a lip that is almost idiot proof on it. On speed 3 he had complete control.
I had told him the start and stop routine but he found out one time with the splatter.

we all wear that badge of snot across your shirt or legs lol it only takes once to never do it again.....
 
I hate splatter. I need to get some splatter off some of the black plastic on the GP.

As for what I did today I got my Stealth started and moved for the first time in almost a year. Just as I was getting ready to shut it down I blipped the throttle and one of the heater core hoses exploded. LOL
 
New direct fit walker stainless muffler on the van today. I welded it in, learned a few things and no audible leaks. Also did tie rod ends on it as well, which were a huge chore to get out of the aluminum knuckle. They were so corroded in there. I've done many at work and these I did today were by far the hardest.

The ingersoll took all the bolts out no problem even on my limited air supply from my compressor.

Then helped a friend diagnose a trunk leak on his aurora, I locked him in it and sprayed it down. Apparently the weld where the trunk strut brackets mount to the quarter panel broke, so they used self tapping screws to mount it back on. Well that's where the water that runs off the trunk is diverted, it flows right in the trunk like a faucet. So we welded those on and packed all the holes and cracks with silicone.

My personal recommendation is 4" pads to apply wax by DA. It uses less product. Recommended speed on a PC7424XP is 3-4. 5.5" pads are ok but they still use a lot of product. Also a good tip is to press down on the pad on the panel prior to turning it on. This will allow you to use the excess product that has been absorbed into the pad. Then work it in. One should be using about 1-2 oz of product.

well thats the wrong angle lol good way to scrape the paint off.

but start em young for sure. kid will be modding his bike next.

Yeah the Meguiar's pads have a lip on them. That is one benefit to them.

Not necessarily true. I'm actually curious if the pad was even spinning or just moving back and forth. The backing plate should not spin at that angle unless it's laying flat onto the paint since the balance is thrown off. I highly recommend anyone to place a mark on the backing plate to see if it is spinning.

He has to learn somehow. Making mistakes is part of the learning process.
 


Replaced the alternator yesterday, I also dropped the transmission pan and swapped out the 1-2 accumulator spring for a spare 2-3 spring I had. The new alternator has more bling than the other one, lol. The really good news is the 2-3 spring made a HUGE difference. The 1-2 shift has never been better, timed at .1 seconds, sometimes lower. Also plasti dipped a spare spoiler I have, it was the wrong color anyways, so I tried it out. What do you guys think?
