Blown engine!! Help!!

I have an 2001 gtp with 177k miles. Opened it up on the freeway yesterday being stupid and heard a knock developing about 5 miles later after i slowed down. My mechanic said it sounded like a rod knocking or maybe a spun bearing. He told me to take it easy on it and see if i can keep it going as long as i can. Needless to say i didn't make it 5 miles on the way home before the knocking got really loud and then lost all compression. Had to get it towed back to the shop.

My mechanic says that i might as well replace the engine vs trying to fix it. What is a good price to pay for a used engine? Do you think it is even worth putting an engine in it or does it make more sense to part it out or scrap it? any idea of the parting out value?

thanks guys

used engines cost around 3 to 700. installs run upwards of 500 +. unless your doing the work yourself then the labor is free.

dont know if there is an LKQ near you or not but they are usually pretty decent on pricing for a pull out motor. I could get you a price on a Factory Reman but I am sure you probably dont want to pay that much.

I spoke too soon we quit building that motor in 2011. Finding a low mileage pullout motor would probably be your best bet.

Could check craigslist around you. I found an L67 out of a 2004 Impala SS indy 500 edition a guy near me was selling. Got that and his trans for $400

I've been there. It sucks but LKQ is good. Take Bills advice. Car-Part.com thats where I went to grab a motor with only 77k out of a 96 regal back in '09 and did it all myself. Good luck

Just get a regular NA motor it's cheaper and top swap your stuff

Do this. You can find a low mile l26 and top.swap it with your old parts. Finding a low mile.l67 is becoming pretty hard but low mile.l26s are everywhere cheap! Got.mine for $400 shipped to.my house with only 8k on it from a 08 grand prix.
