How Long Will A Shift Kit/Trans Cooler Give Me ??

I have a 2004 N/A GP with 171k on it. I developed some occasional hard shifting which I attributed to a PCS issue. The problem would fix itself once I turned off the car relieving the pressure (I believe/read somewhere). Added some Lucas Oil and that more or less eliminated the problem. A few months later I decided to change the fluid and filter for good measure. I added a full bottle of Lucas Oil as well. Shifting was dramatically improved after.

Recently though its been hard shifting again. However, it is not nearly as bad as before, only a fraction of the harshness I had previously. I haven't had the trans codes read yet, but i'm guessing a P1811 code. Regardless of the code, I assume I'm looking at a high labor rate whether its the PCS or worn clutches per the information at tripleedgeperformance.com (a few hours away from me).

I don't mind swapping out the trans if that's the case, I imagine cheaper than a rebuild. My biggest question though is if I did install a TransGo shift kit and/or trans cooler what kind of mileage life will I get out of them before I need a another trans?

I'm not looking for an exact mileage but a ball park figure, if anyone can give me an idea. Please let me know if you have any thoughts, it's
appreciated!!

got a magic 8 ball? that shift kit and fluid change seems to help out with the hard shifts, and the cooler is always a good thing to have. but you never know in the end till it goes.

171 is rather high miles for any trans is left un serviced over the years.

So my trans with 328,000 (1997 GT N/A)and being serviced every 60,000 would not be hurt by adding a shft kit, it prolong it's life. Seems to work ok now.

god thats a winning trans :th_thumbsup-wink:

if your fluid still looks nice and red i'd do it.

I'm coming up on 3 years (70,000km / 44,000 mi) since installing my shift kit; she still acts and runs the same.

Who knows how long the band-aid will last. :o
