Does the turbo wastegate pipe need to route under the car?

I'm trying to eliminate a really annoying rattle when the wastegate pipe and exhaust pipe get together.

I was thinking about whacking off the pipe, but, that would cause it to dump in the engine compartment.

The car is running well, but the rattle is ANNOYING.......

Loosen up crossover and down pipe and wg perch then adjust and retighten. I assume you have a Z3 kit by the looks of it.

What you have is the Z3 kit which has an open waste gate dump tube to atmosphere. I would only mess with the perch that is attached to the rear exhaust manifold which connects to the waste gate and then to the dump tube. With those three connection points you should be able to have enough play to make proper adjustments.

Thanks. I'm gonna give it a go in a few.

I'm on my phone or I'd type more. Forget about the crossover and down pipe for now..... just try adjusting the waste gate setup and is that doesn't work then resort to that.

So, here's the pipe causing the problem. I've looked at it from all angles and can't see how I could move it to eliminate the rattle.

Still thinking on it............

No need to remove the clamps but V-band is very easy to take off and put back on... EDIT: IF you do want to try and adjust lossen the one that's closest to the top...you'll be able to move that pipe towards font/back (bumper to bumper).

This piece (it's the piece that the wastegate is sitting on top of) is going to be the one where you ill be able to make the most adjustments with. From the top of the motor it's about impossible to get to it with the WG right in the way. You should be able to get to the 2 bolts from the bottom. Loosen both bolts and push the pipe to one side and tighten back down.

Did that. The pipe won't move enough to clear the exhaust union.

Trying this now. Dam it's tight under there........

I give up! The bolts to the perch are so rusted I'm no going to attempt to loosen them. If I had a car lift, maybe.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think the pipe needs to be removed and bent or cut.......

How hot does the exhaust get? That's how hot that pipe can get. You can probably shorten it, but I wouldn't just let it dump in the engine compartment. Or you can have an exhaust shop who knows turbo system's re-route the dump tube into the downpipe.

That pipe only dumps exhaust when the waste gate opens, correct?

I don't want to smell exhaust when I'm idling at a stop.

Well, I got her whacked off, just above the exhaust union......but not enough to clear the bolt head..........You can see in the pic where it was hitting the union.
