Re: Winter Projects for the GXP

I installed the DMH Electric Cutout today.

Here's how I tucked my wires. Everything is completely hidden. You'll need to remove the center console (4 10mm bolts) and the rear seat cushions. Just pull the two levers.

The previous owner definitely had kids:

Pop a hole in your carpet, but make sure it is where the console covers it. Snake it through:

Then run it down though the convenient holes under the rear seats:

All zipped tied and ready to go:

I ran it under my car, and zip tied it up:

Now, vacuum. You can see my wire towards the right there, where the carpet breaks. That's all you can see, but the seat covers it:

And an ass shot. I want my summer wheels on now!!!

The sound is good. Not obnoxiously loud. I didn't want to remove the resonator, because it becomes to raspy for my taste. It is a good sound if you step on it, and I'm sure is good for a couple horsepower when open. The stock mufflers are pretty restrictive.

Re: Winter Projects for the GXP

My girlfriend got me a GoPro for Christmas, and I couldn't find any headrest mounts that I liked, so I decided to make my own.

Supplies was a total of $30 bucks from Lowes, including a new can of flat black paint. It is just a small square tube, with some u-bolts.
I bought some command hooks, because I wanted the double sided adhesive pad (didn't want to mar the paint), but you really don't need it.

I think it looks pretty damn good:

Re: Winter Projects for the GXP

The good thing is you can reverse everything and move the seat back and aim it out of the passenger rear window.

Up next is modifying it with some sort of way to rotate the GoPro to aim to the sides. Any good ideas???

Re: Winter Projects for the GXP

nyce work. vector tunes how does it work for you?

No complaints here. The previous owner had a rebuilt transmission installed 50 miles before I bought it. For whatever reason, it shuddered during the 2>1 shift.
My tune completely eliminated the shutter in my trans, engine is more responsive, shifts are quicker and more firm, and I could tell a performance increase from the SOTP.

I got the 93 octane DOD Delete tune. Totally worth it.

Re: Winter Projects for the GXP

Nice go pro mount. I'm sure you will be able to come up with a swivel mount for it.

Re: Winter Projects for the GXP

One more in daylight. Love the way it turned out:

Splitter is being ordered tonight. Then the bumper is coming off and its go time.

Re: Winter Projects for the GXP

nice work. get a go pro vid with that cutout open!

We have about 5 inches on the ground right now, with no plans of the snow stopping for the next week (on and off). I will as soon as I can!!
I don't drive it in the snow or rain.

oh damn! yeah we have about 5 inches of snow here too. im keepin her in the garage unless i gotta go out lol

Splitter has arrived. Only bad thing: He beveled it, and I asked for a straight cut.
That means when I make my modifications to it, I will have to have someone CNC the bevel in or else it won't look uniform.

Mock up will begin this weekend.

Oh, and the shifter is done....sort of. Pics later.

So the shifter comes with these black tube like things that you can stack. The shifter housing is too long, so it doesn't come in contact with the part that engages the transmission unless you use these.
I decided to use some black piping I had laying around, along with one of the rubber tubes.

Put the boot on upside down:

Cut a slit in the back of the boot and wrap it around the square plastic knob in the back:

Cut two more slits in the front and wrap around the knobs up there:

Boot is on:

All done:

Note: The set screws that come with the shifter are complete crap and the allen wrench will round them out in no time. I took some grade 8 set screws from work, which do a much better job.

Also, I work in aerospace, so I am having a vendor black anodize the shift knob. Too much bling for me as it sits :)

So I mocked up the splitter and marked where I wanted to cut it.
Then I took it to my buddy who works at a local CNC shop. He put it on a 1/2 million dollar CNC machine, plotted it, cut it, and beveled it. Cost me $20 and a dozen donuts for the shop.

Bigger holes (I drilled one more size up after this):

Cut and beveled. Looks so clean. They did a great job on it:

Mocking it up in my gpa's basement (can you tell we paint down there in the winter?:

Installed:

10fn9ug.jpg

It is sticking out a little more than I would like. It is going to be tucked in about a 1/4" more.

Splitter is off, and bumper is being dropped off at the paint shop on Saturday. I am respraying it, and having the holes filled in from the front bumper plate (the previous owner ran an empty plate holder in the front; no idea why). Plus the clear coat has taken a beating over the year, so it will look great when complete.

Stay tuned.

I also couldn't stand the silver "brushed aluminum" gauge backing, so I tore it apart and wrapped it in CF

Before:

After:

1057kig.jpg

FYI, this piece is NOT meant to be taken apart. Plastic Rivets hold it together, and need to be cut off for it to be taken apart. Sort of a ***** to put back together, but I just used a little glue.
