10* of KR on 2002 GT (stock) HPT Scanner

Just bought a 2002 GPGT for a daily, no rust!
so far:
oil/filter
trans/filter
o2 sensor
plugs/wires

I scanned it today for the first time and saw 10* KR @3940RPM (WOT). the car is 100% stock other than some stupid K&N filter the last owner put on it. The plugs I used are AC Delco Platinum

I think I might do a power log and 2.5 inch ZZP DP then start playing with the tune.

Its a stock L36, its going to knock..........alot.

Remove those plats, and put in Iridiums. 3800's hate platinum plugs.

Toss in a tank 91+ ocatne and you should see the KR go down some.

I told you on fb to put iridiums in it and get rid of the plats

I put copper 104's in and I added 2% fuel. I have never scanned a stock car before, that **** is nuts. Makes me want to do a PLOG and 2.5 DP and the crush bend where the 2nd o2 sensor is... wtf, it looks like it goes down to 1.5in back to 2.5

If it's high miles it could have carbon build up raising the compression ratio. Run a few cans of seafoam or similar thru the engine and check your KR again. Or if you have a really steady hand go buy a gallon of distilled water. Get a cup or something you can easily control how much water your pour. Take the maf sensor out and start the car. Hold the rpms steady at 2-3k rpms and very slowly pour the water thru the maf sensor hole. If the engine sputters badly or starts to die STOP you dont want to hydrolock your engine (These cars do a good enough job of that on their own) Once you have gone thru about 1/3 of the jug check your KR again. It should have improved some if carbon buildup is your problem.Keep repeating until the KR goes away.

One time my dad came home with his 383 Dodge Polara Knocking like crazy. (Sounded like the worst rod knock in the world) He popped the hood and after a few gallons of water and a few hours later the knocking was gone. Carbon buildup in the cylinder had broke loose and was making the noise.

The ol "trickle water down the carb" trick huh? Never tried it on a fuel injected car (except for a TB injection setup). I'd be more inclined to try the Seafoam treatment first and go from there. As long as you don't drown it shouldn't have to worry about hydrolock/bending rods.

I wouldnt think theres a difference between the carbon in a fuel injected engine vs carbon in a carbed engine. Only issue i could see would be ruining sensors thats why I said take the MAF out and it happens to make a nice little pour hole too. But I definitely agree with you that he should probably start out with trying seafoam.

why not just use some of my 50/50 meth that I have gallons of sitting around? and seafoam that goes in to the brake booster line, right? Its been a while since I have used that stuff.

years ago I bought a 2.5 inch downpipe and did a u-bend delete(it was a used shorty downpipe with no u-bend delete) and a 91 octane incar tune from overkill, he said he got it to 0 knock.

If I can find these things for cheep I might do this, but with a cat.

Yep, from what I've read

"The best place to use it on the 3800 is the brake booster line, which is connected near the fire wall with a yellow tip. That is the only spot it can clean all the heads from"- courtesy of Hippo.
