Dim HUD Only At Night

So this has been bothering me for a while now and I'm not sure what's going on. During the day the HUD works great, nice and bright, as I leave the dim switch to the full power setting. For some reason at night, the HUD seems extremely dim almost to the point where I can't see it (regardless of the dim switch position). I was wondering if this is an issue with the bulb, etc. or if the factory setting automatically dims it at night. Sometimes the brightness will be just as bright during the night as it is during the day which is what I prefer, but this only lasts for a day or two at most. Any suggestions?

While not the typical issue, I'd think it may also be related to the photocell. Probably worthwhile to try resoldering the pins on it.
