Txslow6's 1987 Fiero GT

Picked up a new to me 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT yesterday. I had been eying it on Craigslist for the past couple of weeks. The owner stated he had some interest in trading possibly for a mustang. Luckily, I had a foxbody in the garage that I was looking to possibly trade for a Pontiac. We exchanged a few lenghty emails back and fourth for a couple of days and the seller seemed interested and wanted to meet.

After a 50 minute drive and then 45 minutes worth of conversation we both felt comfortable trading straight across. The drive home was rather slow, but fun nonetheless.

Took it out of the garage this morning for a decent cleaning and a quick cellphone photoshoot in downtown. The car seems to be a decent starting point and I was given a few receipts with items that had already been taken care of. First item of business will be to redo the worn and cracked vacuum lines.

nice looking car. its great how paint holds up on a plastic body lol

doing the 3800 swap?
LOL right! My long term goal with the car is to do a 3800 swap or do a 5.3 swap. Both are cheap engine wise, but I will be doing quite a bit of research over the next several weeks to see what all it entails. From the brief reading I've been doing it seems like it's quite a bit more work than most people think. However, I'm half tempted to pull the engine from my TGP, put it in the Fiero, and hack up the turbo kit to make it work.

Vacuum lines? Quit wasting money and get a ls4 dropout to put in there
Vacuum lines are a must right now some aren't even hooked to anything.

Damn that body is clean! is the inside just as clean? good looking start now L67 next?
Interior is what one would expect with a 26 year old car. Drivers seat needs to be redone, dash is cracked in various places, console needs to be replaced, and it needs a headliner.

Did you trade the black fox body you had?
Yes

Most of the vacuum crap in those cars can be cleaned up, blocked off, and deleted I'm sure.

Super clean car man, not a Fiero fan but you've gotta appreciate a well taken care of car, regardless.

Nice buy.

If I were you I would take the TGP engine and modify the turbo kit for the fiero. It seems to make the most sense. Just throw a decent l67 in the gp and do whatever with it.

On the other hand if you did a 5.3 swap and kept the TGP you'd have one hell of a collection haha

the 3800 swap is probably less work than you think it is, and the ls4 seems to be pretty easy now too if you stay auto

You traded your clean 4 eye for a fiero? Sorry man having a hard time being happy for you. Either way best of luck in your endeavors.

That's good to know. I'm beginning to do more research. How are the kits from V8 Archie?

LOL Doesn't hurt my feelings. Some of my friends felt the same way, but at the end of the day you need to keep yourself happy and have no regrets. I had my coupe for 4 years and enjoyed it for what it was. That car still had quite a bit of money and time that needed to be put into it. The thing I regret most on that car is getting the paint job. It was so nice I feared being involved in an accident or mishaps in the parking lot. I took it out to the first meet a couple of weeks after I got the Mustang back from paint and was gifted a door ding for my attendance. I rarely drove it and soon it became nothing more than a mere garage queen. I don't see how owners of vehicles with paint jobs of that caliber do it. I truly understand now why some collector guys don't ever drive their cars. It's like walking on egg shells around a car- there's no fun in that.

Before I purchased my first GTP 7 years ago I really wanted a Fiero, but as life would have it my wife and I were expecting. Fastforward to yesterday and I'm in a position to acquire one that will reside next to my TGTP and GTO. My vision of having a collection of Pontiacs is slowly becoming a reality. Not to mention they consist of being red, white, and blue... Merica **** yeah!

One of the better looking Fieros I've seen usually the ones I see are so tore up its hard to see the potential. I'm excited to see what you end up doing to it.

Sweet ride. Now I want one. What engine is in the Fiero right now?
