What is this part on top of my transmission? It is loose & maybe KR culprit?!

Can someone explain the functionality & purpose of the breather?
 


It is the vent. As the transmission gets hot, the air expands, this vent allows the air to escape while keeping dirt and debris out. Also known as a breather.
 
The only time you half to worry about the breather is when it spiting out trans fluid, then time to get new channel Body gaskets.

People ask questions on forums, no? A question does not constitute worry, just clarification & education in this case. Why would I ask a question about a trans case breather if I knew what a trans case breather was?
