Miles

Hey everybody I just bought a 2001 Grand Prix gt 3.8l series II engine. Has 136,000 miles on it. How many miles can I get out of it? I was hoping for at least another 100k. What's your miles at? What can I expect to get out of mine. How dependable are these engines and trannys? Thanks guys.

There's a few "mile" threads. But to answer your question, my old 4 door 99 GTP had 255K on the original motor when pulled, was still good. The original trans went out around 230K.

My 97 is at 140K, original motor/trans.

Sooo..be nice to it and you'll easily get another 100K out of it.

The engines are very reliable if u take care of them. However the trannys vary from car to car some peoples last 20x,XXX plus and others don't. Just take care of it. Keep up on the service of the car and don't beat on it

theres lots of us in the 200,000 mile plus club here. one guys up to over 300 and something.

im at 226,000. lost my trans at 218,000. got a 130,000 mile one put in. that now has about 138,000 on it.

I've seen the 3.8's well over 200k, properly maintained.

Pic of mine from about 2 months ago.

I know it's no where near 200k.

That's what my car had a couple months ago. My old black '02 has 190k, and our Silver 2000 GT had 221k.

77K and engine light is on.
Scott shows 225 and no lights (odd for him)

Another Regal checking in.. at 218K (beat my motor til 205K with mods and the trans I pulled still working fine at 186K)

Ran mine until 230600 and it was to rusty to keep driving. Beat the hell out of it. Original motor and trans

what you talkin bout Billboost....lol it was on when i got the car, fixed the maf and pig tail and ait pig tail, then the light was off for over 2 years, till the egr code came, then the evap code, thats all fixed, no lights since then.

and it over 226,000 now, that was a older pick showing the high 225 #'s on the cluster.

^^

I'm still amazed at how many people are awestruck by the "OMG YOUR CAR IS BORKED" light.

No rear o2 Activity, because well...wideband.

199,960 all original. The L36 Camaro has 196,xxx...but the engine was replaced a few years ago with one that was significantly younger. That engine had 68,000 original miles.
