Hello all i have a 1998 Grand Prix GTP. The rockers are all gone. its not a pretty sight underneath the car. yesterday i saw a piece of rust hanging underneath it. i grabbed it and it broke off it was the pinch weld's i believe their called. their all gone on the passenger side the drivers side pinch weld's are pretty much crushed from someone jacking the car up. honestly i wish i looked over the car more cause i only had it for a few months. i am just trying to see what you guys think i should do. cause their is rust everywhere. the middle of the car where the exhaust runs looks the best. the trailing arms all have surface rust i believe. i can get some pictures if that helps. i honestly just feel like selling it cause it sounds like one big headache.

its a lot of dollars to fix the rockers and pinch welds if you have someone else do it. if you can do it its a lot of work. either live with it or sell it. those are pretty much your options. fixing those rockers is more than the car is worth:(

Is there any safety issues if I keep driving it? I noticed its rust by the front strut towers too. I wonder why this happens? It's sad the whole repair is worth more than the car.

the strut towers is a safety hazard if they get too bad. if its just surface rust then maybe you can sand it and paint it or something to slow it down. I thought they used sand on the roads in mn, not salt? the other rust doesn't affect anything, though.

Last time I knew MN used tons of salt.

I don't know. I just know when it gets too cold here in kc they don't use salt, they use sand because the salt isn't effective below a certain temp. MN is generally colder than KC for a longer period of time and gets the more extreme cold for longer periods. I thought I had heard some people from Minnesota say they don't use salt up there.

I wish I knew what they used but I noticed in the winter my car gets white in some areas. I thought that is from the use of salt?
