Re: 1997 Black GTP, She's Lookin Purrrtttaayyy.

And I sh1t my pants when I found out the price of VHT went up since last time I bought it. It is now $12 a can.

WTF.

I see no Buffer or Elbow Grease, so who you gonna get to do this for you? :th_nanana:

I have a buffer.

But im going to do it by hand. I like a good hand workout ;)

This is redemption from the last set.

Will be 70 degree's here in the Mitten on Monday, perfect day for some tinting.

It's always in the gutter.

I reside in the gutter, its more fun there. Come "play" Mr. Hand-workout :th_winking:

Re: 1997 Black GTP, She's Lookin Purrrtttaayyy.

Well, all upper gaskets have been replaced.

Has new stock injectors in w/ orings.

New trans, alternator, oil pan gasket, both axels, front zzp sway bar, new rotors and pads, new plugs/wires/ upstream o2, fuel filter, oil change every 3k, new coil packs.

She should be just fine at 150k :)

Re: 1997 Black GTP, She's Lookin Purrrtttaayyy.

She'll be good for many miles to come so long as you keep it out of reverse :D

Re: 1997 Black GTP, She's Lookin Purrrtttaayyy.

Well today was a beautiful day in the Mitten, and I couldn't contain myself. So tinted the LED Tail lights.

Many of you know, I obliterated the last set of tail lights I did, and this was a redemption time, but on $200 tail lights instead.

Sanded and ready to go:

My amazing paint booth:

First coat of VHT came out like poop. But I sprayed it by hand. But then I realized, "OMG I have that spray gun thing for Aerosol Cans!"

Put that on, and here's the second coat of VHT. So much better:

I did one very light coat the first time, and second heavy coat of tint.

But here comes the moment of truth... Clear coating. My worst nightmare.

First time I sprayed, I did an even light coat from about a foot away. Second coat was another even light coat but from roughly 8" away. Then the next 6 coats I did.... Yes, you heard me right, 6 more coats, (6 + 2 = 8, for those of you who suck at math), where heavy coats.

My car is dirty in the pictures, but here's some teaser pictures:

Now, keep in mind. I have not given them a final wet sanding/scratch remover/wax yet. I am going to patiently wait for the clear to fully dry. I'll bring these tail lights in the house for the night and let them cure.

In the morning I'll remove as much orange peel as possible (2000 grit wet sand, Meguires Ultimate Compund x2, ScratchX x2, then Meguires Cleaner Wax x2 to finish).

Hopefully when all is said and done, they will shine real nice. In the mean time, you folks are going to have to wait until tomorrow to get the real pictures.

But I think I can say, I redeemed myself, and these tail lights came out very nice so far. Just a bit to dark for my liking, but I can't complain.
