OEM Assemblies

Around 2 years ago, i had replaced my headlight assemblies. When i got them in, they were kind of a terrible fit but at the time i didnt care. I got them from a place called Depo from amazon. Ive also noticed that with these assemblies, the beam pattern is weird. Its not like an oval like most headlight beams are. They're mostly little arches and when driving with the lows on, you can see dead in the middle of the road where the arches are with the density of the light around. Pretty much my headlight pattern doesnt look like the pattern that you see from other cars. All you see on other cars is the density. With mine you see can the beams in the middle of the road.

Im sorry if this makes no sense, basically what im asking is if i get the actual OEM assemblies. Wont the beam patterns most likely be different? I know it all differs on the reflectors in the inside right? I wish i had a better understanding of headlights an patterns an what not.

Im thinking of getting rid of these assemblies i have but i want a good set. OEM if not pretty damn close to OEM. Pretty much anything thats gonna give me a good beam and a almost perfect fit. Please leave links. Again, im sorry if some of this doesnt make sense.

I was thinking about these? http://www.carid.com/1998-pontiac-grand-prix-headlights/spec-d-euro-headlights-313980.html

I would say those would be worse output because of the black insides.

I've bought 2 pairs of headlights off rockauto, the TYC brand and they are pretty dam good for the money. I thought they perfomed well and look super close to stock.

How well did they fit? Provide a link maybe? I wont be getting those black ones, that does make sense actually.

Now do you think the beam patterns differ in different assemblies?

Hard to say about beam, we have such bad capsules to begin with.

Both sets did fit great, the brackets arent flimsy and they don't bounce at all.

Just go to rockauto.com, get to your vehicle and find the headlights and you'll see the TYC brand.

I just bought some 04-08 headlights that didn't fit and same crappy light output as the op states.Plus they leaked with sealant on the edges? the stuff was still tacky? not happy at all.The company is Powertech who i bought them from just a heads up.

You didnt get to see how the assemblies threw out the light output? Thanks, will look into them. When you said something about the capsules, what are you meaning them being bad?

So you kinda know what im talking about when it came to the beams an what not? They dont give that smooth field of vision, the cone illumination.

Wont be getting assemblies from there then, thanks.

My old stockers were all nasty and the light output was terrible, so I bought those TYC headlights. So of course the light is going to be better than what I had, thats why I can't relaly say how well those other brands will do.

And by bad capsules I am saying that our headlights are way too small and just the overall design is not good for proper light output.

Yeah i do have to agree on the design, poorly made. Here is photos i shot of the passenger side assembly. Since having these assemblies, i have tried all i could to fit them better but this is always the end result. The little hook brackets are where they're suppose to be. Everything is in the right place, its just the end results i get. Its like they are just resting on the bumper or something. The driver side fits a little better but not the way its suppose to be.

Notice that you can see the side marker socket, not quite sure how water hasnt got in there yet. Now am i crazy or are this a terrible fit?

Wow! just looking at theres no way i would accept that fitment for lights.I knew something was up when the lights i ordered didn't look the the ones in the ad.They didn't fit and so i used a little persuasion, but looked like crap. Then the weird beam was the last straw! They said "direct fit".My ass, anyway i shipped them back on my dime and will be buying from one of our vendors here 1AAuto,3 yr waranty also they pay shipping back to them if needed.I feel confident with these guys compaired to fly by night stores.

Uhh no... Lol

The black insides actually help out a lot. The back reflector is all that needs to be untouched. The rest of the inside housing being black makes the light hit the reflector and be more concentrated.

I have a set that are about a year old. I can't remember the brand. Eagle eye or something. I'd sell the set for $40 with the brackets.

Ive actually almost considered those before I bought the ones I have now. Wish i would tried the 1s from there.

But with having chrome, wont the light reflect and bounce better?

Hows the light output? I hope they throw out a good beam. Photos of the assemblies?

Throw a set of hids in a stock assembly and then in a set of these. The light will be more scattered in the unpainted housings.
