Palm tree car got a new car

Re: Palm tree's el projecto retro

did you try a screwdriver to pry a little on them?

I did mine @250 and they were only in there for like 10-12 mins and they came off with a little prying of a small flat-head.

Re: Palm tree's el projecto retro

Wow I did 225 for 15 mins exactly n a screwdriver to the narrow end of the headlight n came off so easy. Mine are 06 but I don't see why it'd be different. Ask ls1 dude who did the retro write up

Re: Palm tree's el projecto retro

my oven turned off............ but i had a butter knife im goin to find a screw driver now

Re: Palm tree's el projecto retro

I was going to use a butter knife, but the GF looked at me funny when I opened the door. She wasn't happy with me "cooking" headlights in our oven... on one of her cookie sheets... *Whistles Innocently*

So I got the thinest flathead screwdriver I had in my drawer, very tiny one, and started at the corner going gently around and she came right off.

Re: Palm tree's el projecto retro

well finally got the housings apart pretty salty with myself cracked some peices. the corners are in the oven now

Re: Palm tree's el projecto retro

I wouldn't worry too much, going to be painted so that will get hidden easily enough.

You going to black them out or white to match the body?

Re: Palm tree's el projecto retro

Housings will be black and shrouds will be white as for right now lol

Re: Palm tree's el projecto retro

Good job, dont worry you can hide it. I got a sh*t ton of glue on my housings the first headlight I took apart n nothing on the second because I realized what I did wrong. You live and learn!

Re: Palm tree's el projecto retro

thanks guys tomorrow ill be chopping it all up and painting. i forgot the scuffing pads and cutting wheels are at the shop. also still have to get all of that damn adhesive out. It hardens soo fast

Lol yeah it hardens up quick but is still sticker than a bia. So we need to clean all the glue out in order to reseal them tho?!

Yes, you want it all clean and perfect so you can run a bead of clear silicone and make sure it seals properly. Bad seal will lead to condensation inside.

I was going to use the butyl tape, seems like thats what my headlights (ebays) were sealed up with anyways, id still have to? Thanks

Re: Palm tree's el projecto retro

well i ended up buying the stuff from trs to reseal but ill use silicone instead most likley

Yeah someone recommended some 25$ stuff from autozone to seal it, it was along the lines of silicone. Now if you wanted to open them back up, would that still be possible with the silicone stuff you think?

Re: Palm tree's el projecto retro
