Can You Run without the MasAir Sensor

After trouble shooting a lot of suggestions, I got my 2000 GTP running after disconnecting the battray for a day. I pushed pedal to floor and she started. Ran very rough and a lot of white smoke. Unpluged MasAir sensor and she straigten right up. My question to the pros... is, Can I run this way if she running fine with no lights. Sensor is $120.00 and not in the buget right now. What can I do. Will a used one work if anyone out there has a cheap one.

Thanks for your replys...

Honestly I would only ever drive with it unplugged if it was a absolute must, like you were on the side of the road or dead in a parking lot trying to get home type of deal.

The MAF sensor is pretty much one of the most important sensors for the car. It needs that data to run properly.

Hit up a junkyard maybe, they might have one for sale.

He needs one from a 99+ 3800. A guy I work with has been driving with his unhooked for about a year and a half now.

I'll check for part number and get back to you. What year is your's off of. And do you have a PayPal account?
Thanks

if this guys part # is not the same, junk yards and ebay sell used mafs. junk yard gives a warranty if you pay for it, wink wink. :th_winking:

If you have a local pick and pull yard where you do the labor that saves a lot of money. I picked up a whole icm and coil packs for 35.

My boyfriend had this problem. His MAF sensor went out in his 2000 Bonneville SSEi. Car wouldnt even turn over. Turned out his MAF sensor was from a junkyard. I wouldnt trust the junkyard parts. My opinion. New ones for a 05 gop for me would only cost 65 bucks on rock auto.

A maf won't make a car not turn over. Jy maf are better than some parts stores maf

agreed, nothing wrong with a oem junk yard maf. been using one for 2 years now. $40 beats the crap out of $160 any day of the week.
