Supercharger coupling question

CapnBreakAlot

Master-Breaker
This may be a stupid question but i'd rather be safe than sorry. I've looked at all the videos and stuff to replace the coupling in my supercharger (which I will be doing within the next few days) and I saw on one place a guy said when you pull the nosecone off it breaks some sort of gasket or seal and you have to replace it but i've never heard of it anywhere else.. Is there some sort of gasket/seal type thing on the nose cone? and does anyone have any tips for replacing the coupler? Any do's/don'ts? I'm new to all this so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

your supposed to use anaerobic gasket sealant. but i used black high heat rtv. and its been fine.

you use a very thing smear on one side, and push them together.

like mentioned above no gasket for the snout.....just make sure you give it a proper amount of time to cure before you go WOT

huh??????? thats not right. your putting oil in it right after your bolt it together..whats stopping you from going wot?

its not like it needs break in time.

some of the fill, plugs are Allen heads, and some are torx head. take a close look at yours.

also have a can of brake cleaner handy, it cleans up the inside of the snout and the sc side gears of the nasty sludge left behind.

dont forget the bolt that goes straight down, as none of the vids show that bolt, they just show the ones that are hidden under the snout.

take a few rags and lay them over the water pump area, and next to the snout, as oil will still leak out even though you pumped it out with a spray bottle. wipe up what leaks out, then spray it all down with brake cleaner.

and have some latex gloves to wear, as the oil stinks as bad if not worse then old used up rear end gear oil. and it stays with you for a few days. no soap works, just time.

I had a friend of mine that went WOT on a Gen 3 literally right after and it leaked...first thing we thought was maybe the seal but it wasnt....now he used high heat rtv but nonetheless....

I rebuilt my gen v and it held up on my way to work only 20 mins after install, but never went WOT....

your pal messed up some how, should not leak, period. i used black high temp rtv 2.5 years ago, no leaks, went wot asap, new coupler felt great lol

Thanks for clearing that up for me guys. I would have been SOL had I not asked haha. Where can I find this black high heat rtv stuff?

Also I found this stuff thats Anaerobic gasket maker made by permatex thats at advance auto parts. It's just a little tube. Would that work and would it be enough?

small tube is fine. you only put a thin smear on the case or the snout, your choice. and i mean thin, dont glob it on.

just thought id add my $.o2....... in concerns to the black high temp rtv ..... READ THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE USE....... rtv is a wonderful product i use it all the time, however its not designed to be put in immediate use, if you want to use rtv make sure you let it set up and cure for the designated time before you torque down all ur bolts just my $.o2

i hope 20 minutes was enough, cause thats how long i maybe spent putting my parts back on, then i filled the oil and went WOT lol (its made it 2 years so far)

haha well if it worked for you then by no means should you **** with it lol like i said earlier it was just my $.o2.........rtv has different set times depending on each application i havnt used black in a while but red i believe takes an hour to set up before you can torque down the bolts......... if i get to the garage some time this week ill get the exact times on both and a few others while im at it, i love that s$#%.....lol.........i put that s$#% on everything!!!! haha

Alright so I put the new coupler in today and noticed something interesting.. In all the stuff i've read and videos i've seen everyones said the bolts on the supercharger were 13mm. Mine were 10mm hah. And now for some reason my screen that shows my average mpg, fuel used, range, oil life and my boost all reads 0 and doesn't seem to be working at all.. strange..
