ZZP?

It seems to me either people love or hate zzp. I am currently replacing my longblock with another stock piece due to a rod knock. Whe time and money permit I will build the motor I pulled out. I am just looking for some opinions on what is ok and what to stay away from when it comes to zzp products. I have a really good machine shop in town but they are expensive so I was looking at the zzp crate motor as an option. I have also heard nothing but good things about Intense. Any bad things. Where else can I find parts for my car. One last thing does anyone actually make forged rods for these or am I stuck with the L32 rods as my only option. Thanks in advance for all the help.

agreed. Ed Morad is good for used motors. and since you're planning to take the time to build it. go used to swap out everything.

well if your build is under 500 crank hp then youd be fine with any good condition used motor. anything over that mark would prolly require some stronger parts. an l32 is prolly the best start as they come with some stronger parts. lets put it this way. if youre gonna stay with the m90 then just go with a used block if you go turbo i suggest a built block.

This thread is full of so much bull****. Id expect anyone to spend epic amounts on their transmission before ever getting to the point of blowing up motors unless something is terribly wrong with their setup or their tune is terrible. Ive never personally had or seen motor failures that werent DIRECTLY related to an issue that arose in the setup while hauling ass (like a fueling issue).

ZZP is the only remaining REAL 3800 vendor besides thewbodystore.com. They have spent more on R&D, have 98% of the best parts at the best prices, and are bigger then any other 3800 vendor. They have built almost all of the fastest and most powerful 3800s and hold quite a few 3800 records. They designed and custom made cast aluminum heads for this motor for christs sake... probably took more money to do this then any other company has spent on collective R&D for everything.

Intense is a TERRIBLE 3800 vendor and has proved time and time again that the only thing good to ever come out of there company was the S1X cam and a few nick nacks like poly mounts. They have blown up more cars and had more parts fail due to ****ty R&D then probably all 3800 vendors combined.

Im going to throw this out there: Building a 3800 motor is retarded. The fastest Grand Prix in the world at 650-700+ HP (Matts twin turbo car) used a STOCK block FOREVER with NO FAILURES. They even chunked a head and blew a head gasket with a nitrous fail and the motor was fine. With their new single turbo build they dropped in a ZZP crate motor which I assume was to squeeze out every last drop of horsepower potential while also being a big advertisement to sell motors.

Lastly, Im not trying to talk ****... but Morad Parts Company has had TERRIBLE PRICES on 75% of the stuff they sell for at LEAST three years. Ever since they got big their prices have gone up to squeeze the life essence out of everyone that has grown to love their company. I recently purchased a 2006 L32 COMPLETE with GenV supercharger and ALL ACCESSORIES from a different company for $750 with 55k miles. The same motor from Ed Morad would easily be $1500 + shipping or more. Yes, I got a good deal, but Ive never once in the last three years found a better deal on major components through Ed Morad. Some things like starters, switches, etc have good pricing but then you ask about pricing for the plastic molding on the bottom of a door and you almost have a heart attack at $70+ shipping when you can get them at local yards for LITERALLY FIVE DOLLARS. I regularly buy transmissions with 6 month warranties and less then 60k miles for $300-350.

Wbodystore.com
ZZperformance.com

If you have had any problems with either of the above companies then you are either extremely anal, had a crazy special circumstance, or you are just unreasonable and expect too much out of someone. Ive seen people ***** about having to pay return shipping because they order the wrong item... seriously guys? Grow up.

The whole ZZP ships what they think the customer needs idea does bug me but every order I've placed has been spot on and timely.

Only issue has been they didn't tell my why my order was not shipped yet the payment had cleared. I had to call, but i found out very quickly one part was due in the next couple of days and it would ship shortly thereafter.

But then you hear the horror stories of being shipped the wrong pulley or no pulley (wtf?) but who doesnt have a horror story?

I've dealt with ZZP a few times now and had a good experience both orders.... had a problem with one Item and they replaced it immediately and also had good experience with their customer service .... so I don't understand the beef... Also wbodystore is awesome as well as 3800performance .... I've heard horror stories about Intense though.

3800performance
In general Ive never seen anything from them that you couldnt buy somewhere else for a better price. They dont seem to ever have new products although my experiences ordering anything from them have been decent with minimal issues. I typically like to support the "little guy" but Ill still go to Walmart to buy a lot of **** that I need ;).

i noticed my first and only order from WBS shipped from the same address as ZZP....
They do a lot of drop shipping but do stock quite a few of their items. They may have been out and had to drop ship the same and/or almost exact same part from ZZP. =)

ZZP sales has done right by me, though I never needed customer support. Morad's answered my emails.

I would think you could whip up something local for cheap and easy... but hey, if you're going for something flawless, shiny, new, and warrantied, don't let us talk you out of it.

Not cheaper or any more beneficial then buying a low mile engine. A set of pistons will cost more then an entire used short block that will more then likely make the same power as said "built motor" with the $800 pistons. If for some reason you fubar something on your setup and it chips a piston then grab a used rod/piston and drop that ***** in.
