You are correct. Your new clean fluid will already be mixing with the old fluid left in the torque converter, so why put more old fluid in.I seen on one thread/ writeup where the guy said to always mix son of your old fluid in with thenew but I figure that since there's about what 4 quarts that doesnt come out thru the pan, you'd just have that to mix with the new.
I call them opinions. LOLI know everyone's got their own preferences on how they do things...
The only time I would even think of not changing the fluid is if the old fluid has not been touched for a long long time. I would consider not changing the fluid, but I can't ensure that I wouldn't. If your tranny is that far gone that it can't operate on nice clean fluid, then nothing you do is going to buy you more than a few days/weeks of driving on that tranny.
