ZZP Alternator UD pulley...

So, I just ordered the alternator UD pulley along with the UD water pump pulley. When I asked them about power changes from the alt pulley all they mentioned was the lowered amperage. Being that its a 14% UD pulley, can I just up (tune) the alternator cut off by 14% to make up for the loss? If not, is there a higher alt out there (besides the ubber expensive "high output" alts) that will fit our L36? This alt (2002 impala, NA) is rated for 105 amps, minus 14%, leaves only 90 amps. I was thinking a police package which runs at 135 amps (I think), minus 14%, leaves 116 would be more like it.Thoughts and ideas?!TIA,Slim

I have the alt the fuse box cable, and the fuel pump rewire kit both coming as well as a stage 2 voltage booster but I'm thinking I'll be high voltage/low amperage, which may not be the best. What y'all think, bad/good/no difference?

Correct. It is due to possible issues. I thought I'd run it and if I have issues, I'll only use it to play when I'm racing, otherwise, I'll pull it out and put in a stage 1.

Really I'm more concerned with the low amperage issues. Any feedback???

If you are running a stock sterio, and no crazy neon light shows you shouldn't even notice a difference in Alt output. Mine has been on for 40k miles and I never noticed a difference.

Do you mean if I'm looking for power (volts/amps) or power (horsepower)?

I was just looking to maximize HP and limit draw/parasitic loss. This is all in preparation for a top swap.

You'll be fine with changing nothing. 90 amps max is fine for an output if you don't have a system.

The PCM is always turning the alt up and down anyways it's not like it's 0 amps and then max 90. It Fluctuates continously.

Idle is really the only problem, it's an under drive and the pulley is spinning slower the alt cannot put as much (in your case 14%) since really it doesn't matter what rpm your at over 2k rpm you really won't notice because it isnt going to yield more power since the alt is Changing duty cycle all the time and rarely would one need serious amperage unless you have huge amperage consumers like a system.

Thank you all. If I have problems, which it sounds like I won't, then I'll think about either taking it off or going high output. Until then, I'll give it a go.

Bill, I live in Mew Mexico so the A/C delete would have to give a bit to be worth it. We go 100+* in summer and the car gets hot! How much do you think one gains from the delete?

All depends on the condition of the AC system. AC is going to yield you the biggest gains. Reason why I asked about your goals on the UD pullies is when rpm are lower is when you are going to notice the potential for lower power and less cooling. Say you are doing a good amoutn of city driving, AC will be on, fan speed will be maxed, cooling fans on etc etc. Most of us in cooler states don't think the same way, we have a lot fewer days of extreme hot.

I have a buddy that lives in Phoenix and has an electric water pump that he runs in the winter, for summer he swaps back to a stock unit. This is because while the EWP flows plenty for most of us, in AZ he needs the added speed on the highway that the stock pump provides. Now he is modded heavily, but still our motors do generate a good amount of heat which is more problematic in the hot climate states.

AC robs enough power to typically feel it kick on and the IAC will idle the engine up to compensate. No other accessory is noticed like the AC compressor.

True but beside residual drag when off there isn't much loss. When on I totally agree but if he's at the strip or racing someone id like to think he turned it off anyways.

Yes sir. I actually prefer the windows down but the A/C is for the wife and kiddo when we take my car, so, it'll be used but only as needed. I'll be hot for the few seconds it takes me to beat a ricer! ;-)

Guess I have some different ideas/priorities. In my eyes it doesn't make sense to put your cooling and charging systems at X% less for an occasional strip run. Thought the AC idea seemed to have merit for adding back power.

That's why I was asking about off setting it by using the 125amp alt that comes on the police package. It's listed as working as a stock item, I was just wondering what you all thought. Money is less of an issue when spread out over time. I'd slightly decrease draw while increasing power (amperage).

I'm new and I know y'all know a lot more than I do so I ask question based on my theories to see if someones tested it yet. I do appreciate all the input.
