ZZP 1.0 PCM for GT

Is this worth getting for a 97 GT? What benefits will I really get? And is it hard to do? Just pondering any help would be great, thanks.

Hmm well I think I might just wait on this then since it doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. Was thinking it might be a lot better for the car overall but I might just start saving for headers, rockers, and hv3 mod.

speed limiter removed, shift points moved, 3-1 4-2 shift skips, possible increase of mgp(nothing major), but youll have to run premium gas.

No huge benifits but i would say it is worth it, especially if you plan to do other mods.

Here is a good link PCM for Grand Prix GT v1.0: 3800 Performance

it is so worth it! but you have got to have to supporting mods installed first. The PCM is the only way to let your car know what it needs to do once you have changed out all the stock parts. Without it your car is like WTF is all this stuff you did to me, am i on acid or is my pulley smaller?

if you are stock, you need to read the Safely Modding Your 3800 Powered Car!!

intake, plugs, wires, full exhaust/u-bend delete, headers or plog/downpipe, drop pulley size.

all of this stuff should be done before the pulley drop and then the pcm should be bought to match mods. There is more to this but this is just the basics

Dam N Youve got a GT not supercharged forget about the pully drop then

Ya Frank...it is all there in the Safely Modding Thread...plus...putting a PCM on a stock car WILL help you...it'll just work even better when you get the other mods. Do you NEED the other supporting mods? No...only 2 things you really need when you get a PCM is a 180* T-Stat and you MUST run 91+ octane gas. Which...and don't complain...will run you probably $3 more every fill up. And no...your car won't say WTF happened to me...it is called relearning...that is what the PCM does on its own. JUst drive it around in all conditions, speeds, etc...stop go traffic, highway, cruising, WOT...it'll learn what it needs to and compinsate where you added more air into the equation, etc.

So...honestly...if you haven't done anything...I would do it like so.

Flip the stock motor mounts
New Plugs/Wires if you haven't done them...stock replacements from AutoZone have a lifetime warranty (Duralast wires) and Autolite 606 spark plugs gapped at .055".

Save money for a transmission...because your going to need it...you have the vacuum powered 4T60e...which is HORRIBLY weak.

After that...then start modding...Downpipe w/ the U-Bend delete or Speed Daddy Headers...your call...but the DP/PLOG combo will help you better since your just a GT.

HV3 Upper Insert...then make your own intake...then buy the PLOG if you want too. PCM after that...after all that and if your still looking for more power get ER Rockers and a custom tuned PCM...that'll help a bunch. If you STILL searching for more power...ditc the rockers for a cam or go for the Top Swap...but like a said...getting a new transmission is a must because if you start modding with that thing...it'll grenade quickly.

Ok blue thanks a lot for the write-up. Just want to let you know, currently my engine is a year 2000 (my 97 engine blew), I have a rebuilt transmission, so that means its still weak correct? And I have a u bend delete and a custom Short ram intake
and new plugs/wires. That's about it. So still should my first step be getting a new tranny? I just paid 1650 not to long ago for a the rebuild =/

If you have that much into a tranny i dont think any tuning PCM mods would be worth it. The PCM raises shift points and makes them harder and faster which i dont think would be good on a rebuilt tranny. It still needs a good amount of time to break in. I went through 2 transmissions not waiting and holy cow $1600 for a rebuild? Did you bring it to Tires Plus? You could be boosted and then some for that price!

Actually a local shop but the paperwork says it also exchanged torque converter? Not sure what that is but I also have lifetime warranty with them as well

Dude, where are you getting your information? I think you need to go sit and read a bit chief. Higher line pressure and shift kits ARE BETTER for automatic transmissions. Since they are shifting faster there is less time the clutches are making contact so therefore, less wear. He paid $1,600 for a rebuilt transmission which is a pretty fair price from a trans shop...probably why you went through 2 transmissions because the people building yours didn't know what they were doing and you got what you paid for. Raising shift points is another thing...that is engine related...you could turn 7 grand...it doesn't matter. Plus, if it is rebuilt...please tell me what he would have to worry about...nothing you say? That's right...especially since it has a lifetime warranty.

If it has a lifetime warranty I wouldn't worry about it then...go beat the snot out of it. SO...it does it have a new TQ. Conv. or a Re-manufactured one? The converter is bolted to the back of the flywheel of the engine and it does exactly what it is named for...it converts the torque from the engine to the transmission to turn the wheels...which is a very vauge description of it. Google it for more info. Did they rebuild the vacuum powered transmission in your car then? So it still has the stock 4T60E? You need to just find a 4T65E...or for that money...have Dave at Triple Edge Performance build you a transmission and you will never have to worry about it again for the price you paid for your lifetime one.
