Zach's new 05 gtp much slowz

Re: Zach's blue 2000 gt coupe *more projected light*

I have used Tuff Stuff upholstery cleaner for years on my tan interior and headliner and has eliminated all water stains. Use it with a microfiber cloth for the best result!
I used this stuff called foam away. I sprayed it on, it usually pulls it right out and can dab it off. It pulls oil out of carpets fairly easy and seemed to do the job at the time. Jk not so much now that I look at it. Going to have to try something else

Well, I am going to get it clean somehow or another because it will just bother me if I don't!

That's a nice 05 you picked up. Good choice on silver. You may have to steam clean the headliner. The only interior cleaner that really worked for me is Meguiar's carpet & upholstery cleaner and dabbing it on the headliner with a microfiber without wiping.

Thank you, i am quite happy with it! I should have asked you to begin with cause you always help haha. Hm i have never steam cleaned anything, but going to look it up. I used the tuff stuff all purpose cleaner and sprayed the whole headliner hoping to just clean it all up but will have to check it later!

Thank you! Got to wash it, then pulled off the fender stripes and the little bit he had on the gas door. Paint looked decent with a few scratches here and there until I got close. This is only using a clay bar this far because I have work in a few. Tomorrow I will finish the front being clayed, then polish and wax. Don't think it needs any compound unless Guz chimes in and thinks otherwise haha.

Then when I was at home depot picking up jb weld for retros, I found this blue rustoleum flexidip that I decided to try on my window spoiler. Definitely going to stay black unless I pick up grey/silver and think it looks better.

Lip needs to be more flush, if that's how it is going to sit.

I found one pretty cheap on fleabay for like $50~. Was universal, tho.

Fit was pretty good...had it on my Cobalt...then again, same thing...and it sat pretty level with the roof, so it looked more "factory".

Don't worry it does! I had it on my old car and took off the double sided tape to put new tape on since it wasn't sticking good. I just placed it on there to see what I thought with that color and didn't like it. Also wasn't that expensive either

Retros to come soon when I get the headlights, then I can start putting them together!

Hard to tell if it needs to be compounded from those photos. Silver is actually pretty good about hiding defects. You have to be at the right angle with some lighting to properly see them.

I forget what products you actually have at your disposal for compound and polish. It's hard for me to just say for step 1 do this, step 2 do this and so on. I would recommend you do a test spot with the least aggressive method (polish with a polishing pad). If you are content with just a polish then continue. If you need more correction then compound. You can compound down the line when you have more time.

As an example I used my OEM hood (silvermist metallic) as a test for some new products. In this case I used the new Meguiar's thin pads with a different Meguiar's compound (D300) and M205 polish on a porter cable 7424XP.

50/50 of compounding with the new cutting pad and D300 compound. I was outside under some shade from a sail so it allowed light to pass through. You can see how defects are seen at the right angle.

Another thing that I just tried out this weekend was using M205 which is a finishing polish on a cutting pad on this piece that has hard paint. This is the beauty of M205. It's so versatile. I do recommend having this versus ultimate polish which is fine but not as versatile. I used the new Meguiar's DA for this one.

Hope this helps in giving you options on how different combinations can yield good results. Grand Prix's paint is on the medium side of paint hardness so it responds well to a polish and a light cutting pad.

Congrats on the new ride, glad you finally got boosted.
Thank you, i am glad to have something that finally pulls when i step on the gas haha! No more n/a unless its v8.

I will have to get a better look at the paint tomorrow to determine, but i have the meguiars ultimate compound, polish, and liquid wax recommended by you. Then i have the harbor freight orange (compound), blue (polish), black (finish) pads that i use. I really need to get more into detailing as i enjoy doing it, but would like better results and more knowledge of it.

If anything use some ultimate polish and a polishing pad to start. I would recommend you get better pads and a backing plate than what you are using. Those HF pads are not that great and they can separate and fly across the room when using them.

Consider getting these

and one of these backing plates. The benefit of the Meguiar's one is that the backing plate is already marked with the white line.

I have one of these and it works very well.

You should head over to the Meguiar's forum (meguiarsonline.com), Autogeek and Autopia Car Care. You will get lots of knowledge.

So finally all done. Washed, clay bar, vacuumed, windows clean, rain-x on, interior wiped down, polished, and waxed. Still not much sun to tell if there were swirls but took out some minor scratches and will have to go back later to take the rest out. Front bumper is by far the worst part about this car because of a dent in it from a trailer hitch and all the rock chips. Window spoiler is back to black and taped down, but rear windows need new tint!

Looking good. Silver won't give you that wow factor like your old navy blue one but it will look good a majority of the time. All it needs is a little tire gel to make the tires look black but not overly shiny.

Is the rear exhaust valence painted or is it plastic trim?

Yay no more fender stripes.. Question do you have the solid headrest or the ones with the hole in the center.

It is plastic trim, and what tire gel would you recommend? I just used armour all for the time being!

They have the holes in the center i believe. It has seat covers and i haven't pulled them off

My personal favorite tire gel is Meguiar's D163 Tire & Trim Gel. You can use it on trim but it doesn't last that long. After about a week it fades on the trim. On tires about 2-3 weeks. You can adjust the gloss level with 1 coat being matte and 2 coats adding a little more gloss. This is only available online.

If you want to venture into something that lasts even longer then look into the Turtle Wax Jet Black Black Endura Shine Tire Coating. I have had it go for 2 months on 2 coats and some users have seen 3 months. This is good stuff. It's a very thin black tinted liquid. It takes a little practice to get it right. If you get this one be sure to wear the gloves unless you want your hands to turn black.

For trim I would recommend Meguiar's Ultimate Black. There is a new version out that is supposed to last longer. If you can't find it in your area let me know and I can get you one. Here's the difference in labels. Of course cleaning the trim makes it last longer. Mothers has a Back to Black Trim Cleaner that works well or you can pick up some Meguiar's D101 All Purpose Cleaner and the bottle.
