wtf have i done?

since the 12th of this month... waiting on my stupid taxes... new engine, amongst some other audio/visual/HP mods as soon as i get my money.
 


more than likely get another DD also and let the GTP be my weekend,around town car. i found a 95 ranger splash 4 cylinder 5 speed for a 1000.
 
its from one of my best friends... he owns a shop, got a mechanics lien on it... customer never came back to get it..
 
i AM NEW HERE TODAY, HELLO EVERY1, since the knock is not erratic, I would check for a bent posh rod, sounds like you floated the valvetrain, bent a valve, (hence, the dead cyl.) and/or bent a push rod, there could be piston damage, but I have survived this B4 with just upper end damage, good luck,

ok... my friends fam owns a junkyard. found me a 97 L67 out of a riviera 73k miles for 800 bucks... take it or leave it?
 
well theyre knockin 200 off already, just looked at car-parts.com and for L67's with similar mileage they are asking almost 2 times the price i can get it for. ive searched and searched for engines and this is teh best price i can find. and wont have to pay shipping. Noobish question, i cant remember... are there any issues with a 97 goin to 2002?
 


not sure... its already pulled out of the car, my thoughts were that more than likely since its out of a riviera more than likely owned/driven by old ppl. motor will be warranted.
 
gtpinsc, did u even pulled the spark plugs to see if any of them were smashed? i skimmed over the 4 pages of your replies but did not see you mention anything about checking if the plugs were smashed?
 
no, this motor has been giving me a problems... already smashed a plug once on cylinder 6. i want a new motor, then tear my old down to hopefully gain some knowledge and rebuild it with the help of my buddy.
