WTF did I do????

For starters hellow to all, neber here. Anyway, I just bought a 97 GTP. Today I installed my JVC HU. I went to my audio shop and picked up an antana adapter, wiring harness and pocket. I got everything hooked up and for some reason I no longer have a MSG center and now have an ABS and check engine light. Deck works great

Can someone tell me what I might have done wrong?

Btw, I tried the factory radio also and now that doesn't work either. The lights for the buttons come on, but no screen or sound. I've installed probably 8-10 HU and complete systems w/o problems. Its really pretty basic. You have power, grnd, spkr's, Ant, rem, RCA's.

Any ideas would be great, cuz I'm lost.

Thanks guys!!!

Oh almost forgot, my remot for my locks and trunk no longer works either. There could be more electrical issues that I havn't noticed but thats it for now.

the fuse for the remote door locks is behind the w/e it's called where you put maps and stuff lol you got to pull it out and put it back in then you have to hold buttons down on the remote in a certain order to program remotes for the car I forget the order sorry lol

Are the locks on the same circut as the msg center(4 over 3 down). I pulled the fuse to check its condition and put it back 15sec later since it was good.

I'm not sure if it originally had bose. I dont see any badges in the interior. The guy b4 me put cheap sony crap all around and some bazooka thing w/ 2 amps in the back, one for the bazooka and one for the rear speakers (neither of witch are bose), I dont remember the exact brands, but they're over rated under powered junk lol. I took the bazooka out and left the amps for now just to make room for my box temporally(two 12" type R's vented). Get this though, the guy had some homemade resistor thing or something connected in parallel w/ the bazooka. It was solid core wire tightly rapped around a spool, probably 15ft long unraveled. Not that I unraveled it, just an idea of its size. Never seen anything like it. I thought it was ghetto as hell lol. Any idea what this was for? I cant see why i'd need it. I could see if you wanted to increase resistance if say you had a 2ohm svc sub and wanted to make it 4 or 8 ohm I could see. I dont think the bazoka was being over powered at 2ohms but I dont know the rms of the zooka or the amp. Still wouldn't be related to my issue Idt.

Ok, I did a lil searching. Frustrating trying to keep my search criteria detailed but short as to not get a bunch of random crap. Gotta love google. I found out its called DIC (driver info center). That found me a few helpful results. Apparently GM's ignition switches are notorious for going bad. I guess they tend to jam and not let the key out and I guess after a while they dont let enough voltage through. My key WAS stuck when I bought the car. I tried to remove the top steering column cover to allow more room for the dash trim to fit through and get an idea why the tumbler was jammed. While I had the bottom off(top was too much of a pain), I just gently squizd the trim betwwen the dash and column). Anyway, I noticed a large pin that if you push-in, allows the tumbler to roll back. Looking at the bottom of the cover there was a large hole. Where what looked like should have been some kind of release/lock mechanism for the ignition. So I just ran a zip tie around it so that the pin is always in. Might this be my problem, or something ignition switch related being that I had the column apart. I didn't disconnect anything, I just removed the cover and zip tied the pin. Is it just a simple switch I can replace or do I have to replace the entire ignition, tumbler and all? :th_tongue2::th_thumb-down:

Thanks for any help.

I also found out that the blower (HVAC) wont work on certain speeds(or all) when the ign switch fails or starts to. Mine still works, for now. One thing I did notice was when the ignition was in run position (car off) the tack needle will jump ever so slightly (100rpm) every sec consecutively. I didnt notice that b4 either. Than again I havnt had the car for more than a week. Everything still so new to me, but the radio had to go lol. I wish I hadnt done that now. Only electrical problem it had that I was aware of was the ds window regulator, window goes up crooked and falls out of the channel/seal the last 6-8 inches b4 its up all the way. Some one going to tell me thats comon too. What else is commonly falls apart or fails on GP's. I'm starting to miss my 89 taurus :th_lipssealed1:, thats bad. Really bad...

Just thought of something, if my contacts are dirty and it was at the point to were the DIC was working but not the ignition lock solinoid. I wonder if the 30-45 min I had the door open might have drained my batt just enough to not deliver the required voltage for the DIC. It Starts fine and cranks over and lights are bright and blower works on all speeds.

I guess you can take apart the ign switch to clean the contacts(found a how to post). I'm going to do this next if charging(2amp slow charge) doesn't fix it. I did notice when I first got the car that the trunk and locks seemed a lil slow so maybe I'm on to something here. I just hope its something simple. Why the ABS is related beats me. Maybe I have a wheel bearing going out, I did notice a very slight growel when weaving on interstate. Being the the power steering is a lil stiff and whines very slightly if turning and not moving other wise you dont hear it. I figured it was the pump. My luck, its both ha.

power steering is low of fluid by the sounds of it.
that pin you zip tied i would unscrew and rip out.
97 pcms are kinda the problem child... the blower motor might be bad or the relay for it (5th setting has its own)
as for keyfob problems go and get a new battery in it.

per the wheel hub jack the front up and see if theres any play in the wheel.

i might have done somethin similar.. when my"low" miles pop up the entire radio shuts off then right back on.. the rpm jumps too.. and my blower motor only blows hard on 5

blower motors resistors are a common issue with gm. its a $20 part and is next to the blower motor.

radio, hvac ande dash are on the same curcit and some other things are too. check all your fuses.
