Wrecked my GP Friday!

Well as the title states I wrecked my GP last Friday. Luckily the damage isn't that bad, I bent the corner of the driver side fender, screwed up the hood, scraped the bumper, and busted the head light. The fender was already damaged and I just simply bent the corner back into place. I just went today and picked a hood at the junkyard for $60. I was told the hood was silver but they came back with a black hood (same color as my car) yay! However it was clear that the hood had been painted due to terrible orange peel, just needs to be buffed I guess? Also the hood I got is fiberglass, mine is metal. Did any Grand Prix '97-'03 come with a fiberglass hood? or is this an aftermarket hood? Are there any advantages of the fiberglass hood? Thanks for reading!

i want that hood !!!

+1, pics? Does it look like a stock hood or does it have some lumps or scoops? If you got a black fiberglass hood with horrible looking finish, it may never have been painted and you might be looking at faded bare gelcoat instead. Yeah that'll buff up, but won't stay shiny like paint. Better check fit, I don't think GM made any fiberglass ones for our cars and most fiberglass stuff doesn't fit very well. Have you installed it? Any used fiberglass hood should be checked carefully for cracks around the latch striker and hinge areas.

no one made a fiberglass stock looking hood. are you sure they didn't give you a grand am hood ?

I do not have pictures of the new hood yet, It's sitting at my dad's house right now. The hood looks exactly like the factory one... but it is 100% not metal, it is fiberglass. Just because you haven't seen it before does not mean it doesn't exist. Also the it came directly off of another car so I assume fitment should be fine. I'm sure it's been painted because there is a little bit peeling and you can see the finish underneath. I will check it out a little better tomorrow and make sure there's no cracks or anything of the sort. I will post pictures after it's been installed. Thanks for the help so far!

I can't figure out how to upload an image directly but I have posted some links.

Plastic piece behind the grilles is probably broken too. Did you notice any special markings or other unusual trim on the GP the glas hood was on? I'm assuming you tried to stick a magnet to it or something. How did you determine that its fiberglass? I'm not doubting so much as I am curious because I've never heard of such a hood.

Sounds identical to what happened to me lol.

Sorry didn't mean to post that twice, lol. A magnet would not stick to it, and I'm familiar with the feel of fiberglass, and it certainly didn't feel like my hood lol. No I did not see any special markings, and yes the plastic piece behind the grille is broken.. I'm not sure what the exact name of it is so I haven't been able to price one for replacement.

yes but all the aftermarket hoods have scoops ...i can't find a stock style in fiberglass ANYWHERE on the net..believe me i've looked. there's not even a mention of it. you can get a grand am fiberglass hood that looks stock.
easy way to tell is by the weight.

If that hood was fiberglass it would not have dented like that, it would have cracked and busted. That hood looks metal as metal can be.

Never mind, I misread thinking you were talking about the hood in the pics was fiberglass LOL

Use IMG tags. Put [ ] in front of your pic link with "img"'inside. Do the same for the end of the link but with "/img" inside

you know i have seen that. i guess it didn't register because of the lack of pics or info. i assume the "bolt on" uses the factory hardware to mount it ?
worst website ever.
