wrapping headers

GOINDEF

I was just curious what headers can be wrapped for our cars and what cant be?

i have the SD headers and noticed some member pictures with their SD headers wrapped.

I know the gains of wrapping them, but is it going to hurt them if i wrap the SD headers?

My buddy has SDs and ran them 1/2 summer, then had them wrapped and sed he noticed a reduction in under hood temps!

see thats the reason i thought about wrapping them, is cause it would help get the engine bay a little cooler

just build a heat shield, and put it between the the cross-over and the thottle body..and take the weather-striping off of the cowl, i removed mine and the engine bay temp dropped like 5-10 degrees

Seriously...if you think wrapping the crossover or making a heat shield is going to help underhood temps...I lulz at you.

The 3800 is a hot running platform...embrace the hotness, and love it.

just build heat extractors! i guess there is a reason why the Veyron uses 1/3 of its 1000 hp to cool itself! every fluid it has has its own or multiple coolers!

Yeah, this isn't a 1000HP, million dollar car.

Just live with it.

****...................

Ceramic coating is better. I have it on another vehical and it dramaticly cuts the radiant heat to nearby objects. I had header wrap on a vehical a long time ago and
it was nasty stuff, made me itch, and stank every time I got into the car.

I have 2000* Armor Coating done on my Pacesetter's when I bought them.

Silver speaks teh truth...it is legitness.

Motor generates 987 HP in mechanical power.

987 HP in heat.

987 HP in sound.

Hoooooooooooorrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy physics.

Yea,
I thought car engines were only something like 20% efficient. So if your producing 987HP you are producing a lot more than 987HP worth of heat.

I was under the impression it was around one third.

987 hp = 736 kW = 2 511 232 BTU/h

Home furnace might be 100 000 BTU.

HOORAY!

IMO header wrap is pointless. I don't think you are going to pick up any cooler air just because the headers are wrapped. I will make a bet with anyone to take an engine bay temp of their wrapped header car and compare it to a non wrapped car after driving for 1 hour. I will bet you that there will be little to no difference.

only reason to wrap headers is if your running some excessive boost on a turbo because itll burn coatings right off when they burn red hot or if you'd like to wrap them instead of coating them.

however, like previously said, they will rust from the inside out if not properly wrapped.
