would you replace fuel pump if doing the fuel level sensor?

replaced the fuel level sensor, cant get the darn snap ring on, wasted hours jerking with it. Come in here, see it takes two people or to just resuse the old gasket so.....I am now thinking of running up and wasting $90 on a new fuel pump with sensor and just reusing the original rubber gasket. Car has 180K. What a pain in the arse man!

sand the snap ring and make sure its flat, clean and free of rust
clean out the channels / notches where the snap ring sits in there
coat the rubber ring with vaseline
you should be able to push it down and get the ring in. Get one end of the ring in a notch and work it around with a small stubby screwdriver. it can be done by one person.

you could consider it wasting money or time saved.
could put that all back together and have the fuel pump go out in a week.:th_nervous:

I ended up putting the old gasket in, sanded the ring again and it went in like butter. Now that I know how to do it easily I can always replace the pump later. Thanks guys
