Working Retail

I agree retail sucks I worked customer service at Target in a rather iffy area for a while and saw all sorts of crap.. That being said.. I am actually harder on retail people. If I have one item which is frozen and have to stand in a line for 20+ minutes because you only have 4 lanes open (non express lanes) and have 30+ registers I have a problem. Even worse is when this happens on a friday night at around 7 and someone jumps on a register to check out a friend and then I ask if they can check my ONE item and they say nope im closed... really the 2 seconds it would take you to scan it come on! MY FOOD IS MELTING HERE!!

SilvaMan, your gas station story reminded me of a time I was in a gas station and nearly the same thing happened.

I stopped in to grab a soda and this woman had just pumped some gas. Long story short, she got in the owners face, called him an a-hole (among other things) because she made a mistake and pumped too much gas but felt it wasn't her fault and she shouldn't have to pay for it.

After a couple minutes of trying to be polite, the owner glared at her and leaned forward really close to her. I'll never forget what he yelled at her...

"I don't allow stupid people in my store, GTFO!"

I and several other people applauded as she quickly ran out.

LOL thats awesome.

I worked at a gas station, I never stopped the pump if people smoked while they filled up. Who was I to interfere with their dream of having pig skin grafted onto them?

Was a service advisor for 3 years, partsman for 4 years. i plan on writing a book on the experiences working in dealerships.

the one that stands out for me the most was a guy bought a 2001 kia rio from the auction and had it towed over. car had 123000 km on it. the timing belt had snapped in it and smashed the head/valves/pistons etc. the guy wanted it covered by warranty.

explained to the guy warranty has expired (5 year 100,000 warr) nothing we can do. priced out used/new and that was that.

after a long useless arguement the customer decides he will tow it to another dealer.

3 months go by and the car is still sitting on our lot. guy won't answer his phone. so we call the city and have the car towed to impound.

2 days go by and the guy comes in

"where is my car i'm here to tow it"

its in the impound sir you abandoned it here and we couldnt contact you.

"this is bull**** i want your manager you guys are going to pay for all of this"

this is the point where my manager comes out of his office and tells the guy to get the f*** out of the store.

"NO i want the owner of this place"

well the general manager is just walking out of the bathroom and repeats what my boss says and tells the guy he is no longer welcome here.

i've never been happier to see someone put in his place.

Sounds oddly like canadian tire... :th_thumbsup-wink:

Not that Kia dealers have a good rep themselves... :p

Not that anyone here is dumb enough to buy one (no offense if you got one) but i'll tell ya now KIA's are 100,000 km cars. after that expect everything to slowly fall apart. and i'm not just talking drivetrain, trim pieces, wheel cylinders, bearings, radio, actually pretty much everything. i've worked for GM KIA Mazda and honda and KIA is the only one i've seen with so many problems/recalls.

i love when i have to drive to the kia dealer to pick up parts for the shop i work at.

i walk in ring the bell wait 5min for someone to come to the desk, theyre always b*****, throw the part at me with out checking it out and making sure its right, i check the part out, its wrong i go back to the counter and get my face ripped off by the parts lady becuase im wasting her time

we announce the store closings 3 times. if theres someone still wandering the store AFTER all the lines got emptied we close the registers and tell him to come tommorow. plenty of people got pissed but that how we roll.
and that's exactly how it should be. I used to work at a locally owned "family restruant" and they were PARANOID about their reputation and keeping every customer happy no matter what it took and it drove me nuts. I only bussed tables and hated it.

BK Lounge. me and one other guy. $150 of food ordered and we're halfway through taking orders, starting with the 15 double cheeseburgers this guy ordered. and he looks at me and goes "you're ridiculously understaffed." i was dumbfounded.

and then there's triple cheeseburger lady.
"i wanna triple cheese only ketchup"
"*rings in special double and a separate burger patty*"
"that's a triple cheeseburger"
"ma'am i know, i don't have a button for that so i have to ring it in a little weird"
"what?"
-repeat myself
"are you sure?"
"... yes."
"it says double"
"it'll be made right, i promise"
"I WANT A TRIPLE F*CKING CHEESEBURGER. RING IT IN RIGHT!"
"it is."
"YOU'RE F*CKING RETARDED"
"see you at the window."

i could go on for days

I worked at a lumber yard for a while...I've got some stories. Too many to even decide which one to go with. I hated working retail

My first job ever was working in Retail... :th_thumb-down:

I was a.. Custodian.. or if your prefer a Janitor... This was a new position for this store, I was the first person they hired for it. It was mainly a clothing store, and stuff, but it was a pain.

So here is the story.
The manager that hired me, used to do all this herself. She was nice to start with, but after a few weeks she got somewhat mean... So this was what I had to do daily:
Dust Mop the floors under the clothing racks (dust bunnies galore).. Mop the whole store, wipe off all the windows, buff the floor, change the trash, clean the bathrooms... Do all that in 1 hour.. Considering this store was HUGE, and no way one person could get all this done in 1 hour unless you rushed and did a S**ty job at it. I tried not to rush, and still couldn't get it done without some type of help.

Then the manager decided to add to my job.. :th_angry2:
I know the discription of a Custodian or Janitor is a person who cleans and maintains buildings.. Well I wasn't hired to maintain this store, just to clean..

After she added to my job(now maintenance man also), not only did I have to fix stuff, but change signs and light bulbs (very long fluorescent lights).. I am afraid of heights and that was not my cup of tea being on some old type of ladder deal... These lights were so long, it would take two people to put them in, but nobody would help me, they were not going up there. I almost fell twice, and dropped one of the signs and a light.....

So I get called to the office before I get clocked in, they tell me they are going to hire a guy to do the maintenance for me. I told them I really didn't have a problem doing maintenance work on the ground, but they already hired the guy.

So after a week, I was training this guy, they told me that I also had to train him in the Custodian position too. I then knew what was going on, I was training my replacement... :th_angry2:

So I told him what to do, had him help me clean the whole store before it opened. Then the day came, I told them I couldn't work on sundays anymore. The manager said ok. After a week, I get told that they cut me to 1 day a week and I am only working on saturday now.. WTF.. So I grabbed my paycheck and quit on the spot and walked away..

/end rant
