Working Retail

Tonight at work, a customer walked in 20 minutes before we closed and they were talking on their phone, and that is ok. The not so ok part is that they walked right to what they wanted, had it in their hands and back up front in less then 5 minutes. But instead of checking out and leaving, they then wandered around the front of the store carrying on the phone conversation for 10 minutes past closing time.
(on the phone for 30 minutes at a hardware store talking about random ****, do you seriously not have a life?)
Then he finally ends the phone call and comes up to the register to check out and goes...what time do you close. Me: 10 minutes ago at 7. Him: oh ok. thanks!

all for $2.99.
some people really piss me off.

So if you take anything away from this ranting...please be nice to the people who work retail. If they are closing soon, get in and get out quickly if possible. Don't dilly dally around doing something you can do somewhere else.

ok done ranting!

I can definitely relate.

however.... there are MUCH worse things that customers can do.....

Please do tell!?

We've had a customer bring his dog in, who s*** all over the floor and we had to clean it up cuz he was in to big of a hurry to get out of the store before we closed and didn't have time. Really, thanks for being nice and all, but clean up your own dogs poo.

Someone went into the womans bathroom and took a poo between the toilet and the wall.

And then the angry ones... "WHY CAN'T YOU JUST GIVE ME A BATTERY FOR MY ATV" because I only have 30 on the shelf and you can't tell me what you own or the battery group number. He couldn't even tell me the dimensions of the battery.

Haha sweet.

Another guy bled over the headlight book and one of the employees went up to him and said "sir, you're bleeding"

Shocked he said "oh?" Upon seeing it.... he started trying to rub the blood off of the book...

Needless to say, I refuse to touch that book.

omg i hate working retail!:th_exploding: i need a new job...

The sad thing is I "quit" the retail gig, started working full time at my new job that I love and that is in my educated field, and then the old job calls me back and says, wanna do weekends and a couple nights?
...so me needing all the extra $$$$ I can get my paws on says yes.
And at my full time job..the only physically present people i deal with are my co-workers...and then phone calls and emails. So going into work at the hardware is a huge adjustment sometimes. Some peoples stupidity just floors me.
So call me stupid for going back and working 2 jobs (45+ hrs/week), but i like the extra money :)

i could use that money. i work at walyworld and im 18 and they only allow u <25 hours.

but i get the rudest customers and i hate it. i espescially hate the people who dont say hi or thanks because there on the phone. thats when i basically shout to them.

like i have a choice... im a cashier. i cant just leave, even though i wish i could.
I agree with you on that one.
If they dont get off the phone, I just talk louder.
Working retail has really made me have more respect for other fellow retail workers. No longer do I go in last minute, and I try to put things back if i change my mind and don't want it.

and my mom works at wal-mart too. she hates it

i work at a DQ....it was absolutely dead one night. Had the whole lobby mopped and a family comes into eat. OK, no biggie. What wasn't ok was they let their kids slide ALL OVER the freshly mopped floor. Really? Your not gonna raise your kids better than that?
And then there's the skateboard punks that think they run the place. (I do realize not all skateboarders are punks but these are, im not sterotyping all skateboarders.)

We also have people that sit at the drive thru menu board for like literally 10 minutes before they order. And then there's those that just drive right by it.

BUT there was one night when a lady came in like 3 minutes before close and asked what time we closed, we told her it was like 3 minutes and she said "oh I wont hassle you guys when your trying to close" and left...one of my favorite customers....i WANTED to make her stuff just cuz she was so nice.

Anyway im done jacking your thread. Sowwwwweeeeyyyy I just hate my job, I could go on and on about it lol.

A guy asked me which book was for the air filters.

I show him.

I come back five minutes later and his child has pushed every single air filter all the way back....

And then he needed me to find him the filter anyways.

Needless to say, I made someone else fix the filters.

A guy wanted to know why he was "cheated" out of two dollars and my boss was fed up with dealing with him for ten minutes over two dollars. so he reached into his pocket and put a toonie ($2 coin....) on the counter and said "heres your two dollars, this isn't worth my time" and walked away.

i used to work at culvers (food place) and ive had people come in an hour before we closeand they would stay 30 mins after we close talking. then i hate kids who scream and throw a fit because they cant have a candy bar or toy

i got fired from kmart for shooting my mouth off.

i worked in the electronics dept. its 5 min till we close and some confused crazy lady comes in wanders around asks how much everything is. made fun of me for my tattoos. started yelling and punching things when i told her she had to leave, the store had been closed for 15 min. it was a sunday night lol

This has been a couple years but i still remember it.
A couple had their little boy with them and I was back helping them with plumbing parts. (the plumbing bins are all super crowded and bin tags are pretty much on top of each other). The kid takes his finger to the edge of one tag and slides it all the way down the rack a good 12 feet, knocking off every single bing tag. The only thing I could think to say(very nicely might i add since the kid was like 5 or 6), was oh my, what did you just do. His mom looks up to me and goes "how dare you talk to my son that way".

Seriously? I have to pick up and redo 100+ bin tags that your little hellian of a child just screwed up and your gonna yell at me and tell him thats a good little boy. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to have kids...or shouldn't be allowed to breed in general. Please do society a favor and do not pass your stupidity down to the next generation.

Isn't this thread making everyone feel better? lol

Oh ya I forgot, this family came in and ordered 25 dollars worth of food and after they were done the mom came up and complained about the toast, really? out of all the stuff of your 25 dollars you complain about a ****ing piece of heated up bread, really? People amaze me lol.
