• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Work

The mod from over yonder
Just have to gripe about work a bit. I have been working at the same place for 3 years and still only make $7.40 only .50 cents more than i was when minimum wage was 5.25. Between car and tool payments i have little to no money. The only way to have some money is to work 40hrs a week and that is not cool at all when you still go to school full time. I need to ask for a rise for all the stuff i have done for them. Right now i have one of their computers at home fixing a cpu fan in it (getting paid on the side for that tho), and have always been the one to come in when they are short handed or someone calls in. If any one else has gripes about work please chime in.

At least you get paid by the hour. I can put in 12-hour shifts all week plus the weekend and get paid the same as when I work 8-hour shifts. <sigh>

No point in me complaining about work. A man's gotta put food on the table for his family some how. Might as well do a honest day's work.

Yep. People say "Oh it all evens out". But my employer is the military and I'll work 40+ hours every week not counting the occasional weekend. If it even out they owe me a few weeks off without using up my leave.

That is the truth. A while ago, I had a few people having to make up their 2 week training and wouldn't you guess, they couldn't all do it at the same time. Worked about 2 months straight and not a dime more. Would be nice to have overtime pay, but how can we complain with all the other benefits.

True, it is hard to complain when you get a roof over your head for nothing (or if you live out in town you get moola for that), free college education, food money, MWR, free medical and dental, inexpensive life insurance!! And then when you get out the benefit of having military experience makes you stand out over others for a civilian job.

Depends on how you look at it. If you say you get free food, free housing, free medical, etc, then you look at your base pay and that's all you get paid.

Everyone gets "paid" whether the money goes to a chow hall or to their pockets for their food, everyone gets "paid" for housing whether it goes to the dorm upkeep fund or to your pocket for off-base rent/mortgage. Ever see those "hey, we figured it up and you make about this much if you were a civilian based off things we give you but you never see in your check." Well, according to them I make just shy of $30k after being in the military for about a year and a half. And it goes up fairly quick.

I don't know, salary (and the military) does have its benefits, but at the same time the down sides can be kinda steep as well.
