• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Won't start after cam install

I pulled it all apart. My timing marks are correct. Here is a picture:

I went to turn my crank with the bolt with the front cover off and it turns wayyyy easier now. Should throw it back together?

how hard did you pound the balancer back on there? did you end up binding anything?

Bill told me to just use an impact and crank it down. It would have been close to the torque setting though. I'm not sure what was causing it to turn so slowly, and rough. It's night and day from how it's turning now though.

no dont get me wrong, i did the same thing since the torque spec on the bolt is crazy high unnecessarily.

did you use heat to get it off? if not you may want to toss it back on, at least the key ways intact.

if you did use heat, did you see smoke or smell rubber burning? if so you may want to get another balancer.

I didn't use heat on the balancer. However, something is f*cked up...

I looked at my balancer, and I see 2 key slots. There is a large one, and then there is a small tapered key slot. I looked at the crank and I only see a small tapered key, at the back of the shaft. Here's a picture of what I mean:

Did something break?

The key doesn't come all the way to the front of the shaft, and it looks as though it carved a new slot in my balancer pulley. I can't even get the harmonic balancer on the shaft. It won't go, unless I force it with the crank bolt. What can I do?

my wild stab in the dark is to try a new balancer..

but wait a little bit, i'm sure one of the more experienced users will be on shortly :)

as per the key, not sure.

never had the pleasure of replacing that.

One came with my new balancer, but i left the old one on there.

Also unsure if thats the correct position.
