wiring harness differences

my gf wants me to put a new head unit in her 06 GP, but at best buy they said the wiring harness is like $115, but ive heard theres a $15 one also...

can anyone tell me what the difference in functionality would be? door chimes dont matter but would i lose the date on the middle lcd screen?

anything else i need other than wiring harness, antenna adapter, and double din bracket kit thing?

Please do a search, I remember this coming up less than 2 weeks ago and I think there was a good discussion in the thread.
 
I tried searching but to no avail, I can't seem to find anything other than a recent thread but its not helpful :( maybe I'm not searching for the right thing? Would somebody mind helping me out please? :)

Specifically I would like to know
1- apparently I will lose date on the little middle screen (don't care) but what about the mileage and PRND321? Cause those are kinda important I think...?
2- which wiring harness would everybody recommend? The 115$ one or the $15 one? Would it make a difference in sound quality?
