Wiper issues

I have an '02 gtp. Just recently I have been having issues with my wipers. I'll set the speed on the lowest intermittent setting and they will run fine, and then randomly run constantly. If I switch the speed to any other speed, except for the high constant, they continue on the low continuous speed. Eventually they switch back to intermittent again. If I go into high constant, they run just fine, no issue. I've had the issue where when I turn off the wipers completely when this is happening, they will wipe an extra 2-5 times before they shut off.

Would this be cause for a new wiper switch? It looks like those might run a few hundred and if that is the case I might just put up with it, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has other ideas?

there was a thread a while back where a guy had some problems with the wipers, turned out to be the little board mounted on the wiper motor. its little brain i guess.

wish i could recall the thread or wtf it was called.

Its probably not your switch. The wiper "delay module" is about a thirty dollar part new. The wiper motor and transmission assembly has to be out to change it. Allowing for head-scratching like I did, allow about an hour to swap it. Remove driver's side wiper arm and unplug the hose, remove cowl panel half, remove plastic push clip and cover, unbolt assembly, unplug connector, remove wiper transmission assembly complete, swap module and reassemble. The stock circuit boards are thin and can break, and corrosion can kill it as well.

so that was you with the crazy wipers? i see so much its hard to keep track sometimes. but that sounds like the part.....

FWIW they may also be called "pulse board module"...

Hey Scotty- well, not so crazy on mine. On my 99 GTP when I got it, he slowest delay position was the only delay mode that worked but I had low and high. If you put it on the slowest delay, it would work once then go to low speed. I had the wrecked 02 with no such problem so I swapped the entire wiper trans / motor / delay module assembly. Dorman says theirs has a thicker circuit board. Hardest part of the repair is positioning the assembly so it will come out of the cowl, I had to bend a tab. The module is lmounted to the underside of the wiper transmission.

sounds like fun. i say this cause ive changed a few wiper trannys and motors. truth is most aren't all that hard to change.

Okay thanks for the input. That is a much more reasonable price and doesn't sound like a tough job either. Exactly what I was looking for.
