Wiper arm not moving?

Okay, so there was a little ice on my windshield yesterday afternoon (I thought it was just snow) and I turned my wipers on and my driver's side didn't move. I made sure there was no ice or anything around it and still nothing, so I got out and played with it and the arm moved freely.

So... is this a common problem? I didn't get much of a chance to mess with it since it was dark and I plan on doing it later today. I would think gears might be stripped or something but it moves really smoothly... I'm just worried that it could be something that I'd have to rip the dash clear out to get at or something.

Any ideas on where I should start before I start going at it later today?

the nut that holds the arm on the gears (post) is most likely loose. not all that uncommon.
the only reason you'd have to tear the dash apart is if your switch was bad. everything thing else windshield wiper related gets taken care of from under the hood

Yeah, all the controls are under the cowl under the hood. Take the cowl off and see if the nut is loose or the arm is stripped. Pretty straight forward to tell what is going on when you get under there.
