Im in the middle of rebuilding my motor.Iive got a vs cam 90# springs seals and retainers on the way. im also running headers. My quiestion is if i will have problems without a tune... and im thinking about getting a pre tuned pcm from overkill or something.

Canned tunes suck.

Don't build a motor and not get it tuned...that's just silly.

But will it run? Yeah.

will work just fine.

I barely tune even the biggest cam cars.. There is very little if any power availibile tuning over stock settings in most cases. Biggest concerns are idle speed/fan temps/etc... not fueling/timing.

well i basicly just need to have it run good until i can getr it tuned. i also have to break it in so ive got a little bit of time.

there is no break in time for a cam. drive it like you stole it.

back in the day you had to, but with roller lifters, those days are over.

I am rebuilding my entire motor... not just putting in a cam.

ill re phrase that for you, there is no real break in run time for a engine either, never has been. the cam you used to break in, nothing else.

mains and rod bearings have zero break in time, they are what they are.

the rings need to set, and beating on it sets the rings best. so its go or blow. either you built it right or not. no amount of babying the engine will save it or kill it.

well im not going to beat the **** out of it right off the bat the gaskets need to seal pproperly and ill probably have a bunch of minor thing to fix or change. but i definetly plan on getting a street tune for a place called tampabaytune. its 300 for a street tune and 500 for a dyno tune

whos telling you all this stuff?

gasket are set when you bolt them down, ill say it again, the only thing is the rings need to be seated in the cylinders, it has been said, driving it hard right out of the box seats the rings best. the bearings, lower end, cam, are all set and ready to go, if they were to break in, they would also wear out. and im not talking rev limiter burn outs. some firm driving, spirited if you will.

this is where the term, its gonna "go or blow" comes from. you either built it right, or not. see what im saying.

if you hear a noise right a way, turn it off, start digging for what you messed up. if you hear nothing bad, and it sounds good, drive it.

thats what im talking about. hopefully i dont hear any noises but if i do i have to change something or fix something. hopefully not though

Im not sure exactly where you are at but im in the daytona area and i have tuned VS cams before. If your interested PM me and we can figure something out.
