Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Will I get major knock?

Okay, I have everything for the 3.4 set up but the tune! Would It be safe to just drop to a 3.6 or even a 3.5 with headers cam and basic mods but no tune...I know im getting knock now not ALL the time but I can tell sometimes. Would it be wise to just wait for the tune? Im sorry but this pretty weather and the tracks being opend are killing me!!!!! lol. Someone told me that having the GEN5 and letting the car breath good that it wouldnt hurt to drop it 1 to 2 sizes. But I want to see what you guys think!

If you're getting actual (not false) knock at this point, dropping to a smaller pulley would not only be dangerous for your engine, it could potentially slow you down from the lost timing with the increase in KR.

You could also try putting on your breathing mods first. Put those headers on (im not sure if you have anything else) but, the intake, 180* t-stat and get yourself a scan tool and scan with just breathing mods, see what kind of knock you have then throw on that pulley according to your scans. Just keep in mind you definitely will need to tune.

Ya, but only thing is I dont even know if my car can be scanned! (remember its a 07). I have headers,cam,180,colder plugs,Boost gauge, aerogauge, and 3.4 pully with belt and pully puller..LOL. And some other small stuff. Ya I think im getting KNOCK.....the other day I got on it and at WOT it broke up BAD! I changed my plugs and wires maybe a month ago....but I pulled over looked at everything it looked fine. Baby it home and havent had it since...so I dunno! lol

EDIT: I guess I could put the aeroforce gauge in and see what it says....I just HATE having stuff in my car I dont really "need".

KR will cause you to slow down, it shouldn't cause it to break up. Sounds like you have other issues you need to track down first.

The Aeroforce should be able to scan it, I believe.

Stop right in your tracks. Why even continue modding and you cannot get a tune? A tune is THE MOST IMPORTANT MOD. You can buy all the best parts but your car will still run like balls if you cannot tune it. HA HA your piston is going to be IN YOUR BACK SEAT!!!!!

I keep forgetting you have an 07' :th_angry2:. yes aeroforce does scan, i go out and scan every now and then with weather changes. You might have to tune yourself with hptuners or someone can dyno tune it. With cam a tune is a must have.

I didn't think HPTuners could tune anything newer than an 05 GP?

You could also look at finding a 2005 pcm to throw in your car so that it could be tuned.

I was just thinking that too. If i remember correctly it will work but, your gas gauge reads backwards and im not sure if anything else funny happens. Don't quote me on that though, it was a while ago when i was reading some info.

if you have a cam you should easily be able to drop to a 3.4 without knocking. i never saw one blip of knock when i was cammed and untuned on a 3.4.

rmmm...duh! lol Thats why Im not going to slap on a 3.4 with out my tune. I was asking if I drop ONE size will I HAVE to have a tune. And yes the only way for me to tune my car is get a 05 ECM. I have one I bought now im just waiting until April and im getting my HPTuner then im doing the WHOLE 3.4 swap. I know it would be murder to my car to drop to a 3.4 without a tune! lol. I was just asking about one size if allowing the car to breath better and just dropin one size if I would get knock very bad.

The gas gauge not reading correctly is apparently a hit or miss kind of thing

Ya, I had one guy said he could prolly figure out why it was doing that. But if I can get a good tune and run good...I can deal with that!! LOL

why does everyone think you cant do this? with a cam youre going to be moving so much more air than before that a 3.4 should not knock unless your tune is crazy off and so long as youre not going to beat on it who cares?

im not saying slap it on and go run your car into the ground, but seriously people..a cam to run a 3.4? all you need is an intake, plugs, thermo, and a downpipe to run a 3.4 fairly safely. im not saying it wont knock, but it wont blow up. these cars really take a lot more than you all are letting on.

Because he was saying that he's getting knock now with the stock pulley. If that's true, it would be stupid to drop to a smaller pulley.

Now it sounds like he may not be getting knock, which changes the entire situation.

So question than im getting a VS installed as we speak what else would be necessary to drop the pulley cause this is something i have never heard about i mean besides a down pipe but with my set up and a downpipe and a ported manifold chances are i would be good with minimal to no knock?
