WIDE tires and rims

ok, I have finally gotten all of my appearance package on and I love the look,, I is however in need of some fat rear tires and some nice just a tad bit smaller fronts... What is the size i am going to need,,, anyone with wide tire pictures,,,,,,

if you want a fast car, get 17s and run 245s. if you want a great looking car, get 19s and run 255s.

do it all around though, not wide rear tires only. its a fwd car.
 
please explain? is 245 Wider than 255,,, Do I need to get new rims? I am sure I do, just really dont know... thanks... Yeah, I want a great looking car that when needed can haul azz..
 
The larger the rim, the slower the car will be. So there is a trade off for looks and speed. Like Bio said, 17s are good on a quick car. 19s or 20s for looks. 18s might be a good trade off.

But yes, 255 are wider than 245. It is a measurement of the tread width in mm.
 
if i didnt live in milwaukee and didnt really care about how fast i was overall, id go back with a set of 19s. they look freakin pimp and the ride isnt horrible. but since i do live in milwaukee, im trying to find a set of pregen wheels to put some wide 16" tires on.
 


I would get the AZA Z-01 rims. 18" in black. That would look sick on your ride! that appearance package looks sick btw!! Like bio248 said go same size all around! When you get some rims let me know. Would love to see it all done!!! Good Luck!
 
Well, after alot of researh and hints from you guys, i am stearing toward 18" 255 all around... I dont really like black rims, but i am open... I dont think I should lose alot of comfort just going tup one size, and I should get better handling hopefully going wider... well, I will get theses done prob in two weeks.. what is a price range for what I want to do? anyone?... thanks.
 
i dont know that 255s are going to work any better as far as traction and handling than 245s will. but they will look nice.
 
I have Eagle F1 GSD3, 245/50/16s on my 99 GTP and under hard cornering the rear rub on the rear trailing arm. At least I think thats what its called. Its not major. You can see where it has rubbed a little bit. No dammage to the tire. As the car sits I cant get a finger between the edge of the tire and the arm. When driving normal no issues. Of course when I say hard cornering I really mean driving it hard around 15 and 20 mph rated turns. Fronts are aok, no rubbing.
 


on 16" rims..18s will not flex that far. i had the same issue with big tires on my stock rims, but i want a different set of rims anyway...
 
you think wider is better, but with tires, there is a point that wider hurts you, cause the more area, the less weight per square inch thus the less pressure equaling less grip... but that point may be over 255, i think it wouldn't affect us untill like 275 size... but food for thought
 
OK, again after some going to shops and looking at rims and tires, I am so fustrated... Well, they are just to damn expensive... I was looking at 18s with 245 wides with rims for around 2400,,, bull ****...... then I found a audio place owned by some indians, that had basically the exact same rims for a total of 1300 for 20" 255, now that is cheap,,, what do you all think,, I am kindof thinking of going with 20" NOW.... speed in the 1/4 mile means nothing to me, but i am going to do alot of mods here soon, just to have some more HP, but losing 1 or even 2 seconds on the quarter mile means nothing to me...
 
If you choose the right wheels it can look nice with 20s. Yes, performance of multiple areas can be affected with heavier wheels. Not all larger wheels are heavier. You get into 20s+ territory and most likely adding quite a bit of weight though. Make all appropriate upgrades and keep it clean.

Also, with the 04+ I don't personally think wheel well gap hurts the appearance of the car as much as the 97-03 GPs.

Very nice looking car by the way. I don't picture it with 20s, but post pics when you decide.
 


OK, OK, OK,,,, after some research, I bought my new tires, I will have them in four days... I am keeping my rims, I love them... they are 17 and I will not sacrifice speed with all my newly mods to be.... I went with the Bridgestone turanza serenity 235/50/17 these have been rated as the best summer ultra high performance tire... I live in houston.. they also say that they handle great in the rain..
BUt most important that say that the sound qualitly is the best of any other tire in its class... I hate hearing my tires while on the highway.. and the handling is great as well,, I just hope these live up to the hype... does anyone have these?
