So this is going to be for my new engine build.....

ZZP XPZ at around 570 intake and 540 exhaust

Intense stage 3

Stage 3 Blower Cam, duration @ .050": 222?/228?, lobe lifts: .338"/.344", valve lifts with 1.60:1 rocker arms: .541"/.554", lobe separation angle: 115?, intake centerline: 111? (+$50.00)

I Want the most power. And the simple answer to that might be the cam with the highest lift. But the dyno numbers i've seen are very very close with the 2 cams above.

Also considering the stage 4 from intense

I forgot to add this one.

THRASHER RACE CAM SPECS:
Duration at .050 = 222 degree intake/222 degree exhaust
Intake Lift = .354 (.566 lift with stock 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
Exhaust Lift = .354 (.566 lift with stock 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
Lobe Separation = 114.0

I have no experience with them, but the intense stage 3, 4 is wicked loud from what I've seen in the videos. XPZ sounds more muscle like, which is why I'm probably going with that one, and I'd like to max out my m90 before I move onto other things. If I get an XPZ cam before you happen to get your new cam I'll let you know what it's like. I'm just being patient waiting for a used one for cheaper

XPZ is the "supposed" big power cam, but im not really buying it. it's a hype as far as i can see. can power be made with it? yes. can power be made with other cams just the same as long as you know how a car works? yes.

i would LOVE to run and IS3. i have the heads, which im trying to get rid of for some odd reason. it's a mean cam and it has proven power behind it.

otherwise, the TEP is MMEEEAAAN. i ran one. was amazing. i want another. honestly. the idle was crazy, the powerband was..everything. i only ran it for a few days, but it was crazy. i would run another one if i had a chance. it is a really sweet cam.

but the thing is, what are your plans? are you planning on running some spray at the same time? you might want to look for a cam with more exhaust duration, helps with the spray.

it's really a personal choice at this point. where do you want to go?

Yeah i forgot to add it's going to be a nitrous setup.... at least a hundred shot...

What about this with some higher than 1.6 roller rockers??

CAM-803 - INTENSE™ Stage 3 Nitrous/Blower Cam, duration @ .050": 220Ý/232Ý, lobe lifts: .337"/.351", valve lifts with 1.60:1 rocker arms: .539"/.562", lobe separation angle: 116Ý, intake centerline: 112Ý

And another question i had was when choosing a nitrous cam...Does the intake always have to flow less than the exhaust?

For instance .539/.562

Compared to .600/.601

Were just woried about flow here right? and the exhaust being the main concern...So it's ok if it can flow the same as the intake..just as long as it CAN flow.....Right? or am i still missing something?

I don't think i would be willing to switch over to that intense nitrous cam that i posted above becuase it's not much different than the xp i have installed now as far as lift goes.

Cam specs make my head hurt when you compare them, but I think for the money the Intense cams don't get as much credit as they deserve. The XPZ idle sounds tame compared to even the IS3, but they probably try to incorporate driveability in with them.

I've gone back and forth and back and forth on this myself. I want an all out power beast, I don't really care about how well it performs on the street really, but I want to be able to drive it on the weekends.

The bad thing about these things is it's hard to find non-biased information on either of the other grand prix sites.

For some reason i just want an intense cam....i dont know why...It just sounds mean....but if the xpz is going to make more power then of corse im going to go with that.

Looking at the hp dyno charts on cgp should tell me what's working for people. And it appears to be the xpz. But what if the people that bought the stage 4 didnt have the same size pulley or.....ya know what im saying? But if they had the exact same mods the intense cam would have blown them away,,,,

I just don't want to do this again.

if youre looking for a nitrous cam, the intense blower/nitrous cam would work out fantastic. its not that you can't use an intake biased cam with spray, its just that it wont work as well as an exhaust biased cam.

i am not biased to any of the cams, but when i ran the TEP it was nice. if i were to do it again i would really want to go for an IS3. i dont want to run spray though, so if youre going for that the blower/nitrous cam might be something youd want to look into.

You don't think i would benefit from the is3 or possibly the is4 over the nitrous cam though? Only because the lift is more that the s3 nitrous cam is why im wondering.

I remember you telling me about the tep in an email. But the hp numbers on cgp worry me some.

not trying to hijack or anything, but isn't the XP cam good for nitrous? At least ZZPs website says so. Is the XPZ a bad cam to use with the juice? I thought the XPZ was very similar to the XP?

nitrous likes to have an exhaust bias. the xpz is just too close with the lift numbers for it to work well. will it work? yes. will it be the best? no.

if i were in your seat TDC, i would be asking myself when im spraying and when im not. are you going to be driving the car a lot without spraying it? if so, maybe an is3 is where you want to be. if you were planning on spraying a lot of the time, then the nitrous cam is probably where you want to be.

because in my case i want to run non-intercooled and without spray, id be running an IS3, TEP, or a NIC. in your case it may be better off for you to stick to a cam known to work well with spray.

Yeah i won't be spraying it a whole lot....Let's say 15% of the time.

I'm shooting for the IS3 and maybe some 1.7 roller rockers.

But i have a cupple more questions first.I'll get back with ya

i would run the highest lift cam that i could on 105s valve springs, i cant help to think that to high of spring pressure is going to start robbing some horsepower. im not sure if it would matter much or not. thought i throw that out there

I don't think it would matter. Thanks for posting up though. Sometimes we do all overlook the small stuff.

Any energy taken up by compressing the springs is released back into the engine as the lifter rides down the back slope of the cam lobe. It doesn't "take" anything from the engine except any losses to friction.

I've always liked the good ol' Thrasher cam. It definatly has one wicked idle thats for sure!

So you're going with a Blown, headed, cammed, nitrous set up? What happened with the turbo route? Just curious. I know you have something good up you're sleeve.

Mainly the money Shawn. I'd love to do a turbo setup but my tranny has only got a 7/8's chain and i wouldn't be comfortable with running that. From what I hear anyway.

Does ANYONE have a sound clip or video of the idle with the thrasher cam??

I've looked all over and found nothing. Just curiouse of what it actually sounds like.
