what about the grand prix gxp that's not a sub model
GXP, GTP, GT, etc are trim levels, not sub-models. The reason Pontiac changed ALL the nameplates is because the average person associates Grand Prix, Grand Am, Sunfire, etc with "pile of dog sh*t cars". Remember, we may tolerate what these cars put us through as enthusiasts, but your average consumer is NOT going to have any of that. The idea was to start with a fresh, clean slate for Pontiac so that these better cars weren't attached to that stigma, all while trying to give the cars a bit of European flare (thus the numbered nameplates).
doesnt matter, g6 is still a piece of **** and people know it.
Then why did they make G8 GTs and G6 GXPs?
...The G8 was the successor to the Grand Prix. G8 = 8th gen GP (*gasp* yes! there were 7 gens of GPs!!), just as the G6 = 6th gen of GA and the G5 is the 5th gen of the Sunbird/Sunfire. Therefore, this being a GP forum in general (not a w-body forum, or a 3800 forum), it makes perfect sense for there to be a G8 board on it.
I always figured that it was G8 - v8 platform...
agreed. it looks more like a cross between a sunbird and saturn. i saw one with spoiler. not sure if it was factory or after market spoiler but it was awful looking
