Why did you choose to buy a GP?

So I joined you bunch of sick-o's. Just got an 06 GT that's very clean, zero body rust, 105k miles, all original. This is 100% daily driver, looks like I have some 100k mile maintenance to do. My previous car was an old cng civic. Turns out this new gt is faster.
 


My grandma had a '94 Mustang GT convertible with the 4.6 and a stick, and it was an absolute dog. The power was pathetic. She traded it in on a brand new Comp G in late '03, and drove it until her health prevented it (right around 75k miles). Mom drove it for a bit and neglected it, so my grandma gave it to me before she passed. I already liked the cars, my dad bought a '98 Pace Car when I was little and parked it in the shed next to his '88 Trans Am GTA convertible. I love pretty much everything about these cars, besides things like the power steering fluid reservoir location (what the hell is that about?) and the obvious lack of RWD and a manual. Another thing that'll keep me coming back to these cars in the future is the people on the forums and groups, they're genuinely helpful and not as snobby as other communities.

I don't currently own one, but I am looking for an 04-up to replace my Saturn Ion Redline. I had a 1997 GTP that got 32 mpg on the highway, and did what I wanted it to go. Looked at a CompG before the IRL, but didn't like it then. Will be looking for an 04-up for some light mod DD duty.
 


I needed a 4 door car for the kids and this one fit the bill. Lots of room, sporty and fair gas mileage and lots of room between the bumper and the back set in case of a rear accident while i have my kids with me. Seen to many car accidents where the rear was pushed into the driver seat and some of these cars didn't have much of a trunk and the grand prix has a house of a trunk, feel my kids are safe riding in this car when i have drivers stoping just inches behind me.
 
I knew it was getting time to replace my well loved 94 Cadillac Deville Concours with 200K on it. (270hp N*)
I've owned Grand Am's and a Sunfire in the past and they were decent reliable cars.
The 98 Sunfire 5sp. was excellent in the winter as well. Best $550 I ever spent on a car that lasted me 4 years, then sold it for $8i00

Working with a small limited budget, after searching for months, I found a clean 03 GP GT from the 2nd owner for a decent price.
Needed enough leg room in the back for my 13 yo. daughter that's already 5'4".
It looks and runs great. Rides/handles much better now but the damn road noise compared to that smooth old Caddy sure is annoying.
It makes a great daily driver for me for the 58 mile round trip to work and back. Getting about 24 mpg now.
 
I was driving around in a rental at the time i purchased my 2000, and every time i saw one i thought to myself, "that's a sporty looking ride." Took one for a test drive and i was sold. That was 13 years ago. It only had 38,000 on the clock, and was in immaculate condition. Parts are cheap and for those of us do-it-youselfers they're very easy to fix/work on. I don't think i'd want one if it wasn't supercharged. The HUD is sweet too. When test driving it the dealer leaned over and turned it on, and i was like "damn...now that's what i'm talking about." You have to remember that was well over a decade ago and i had never seen a head-up-display car in person. So those of you thinking hud is no big thing. Well it was to me back then. I still think it's something all new cars should come equipped with because i never get tired of looking at it.
 
Cheap, easy to repair, reliable, and sporty.
Would I buy another? Just did, got an 06 GT S/C. Now to add it's quick and more options, comfy leather dual heated seats, advanced dic, etc.

The 04+ cars are much better cars overall, tons of things we don't like about gp's apply to 03 and older. Whether you're talking about problems or available options and interior styling. The mid 06 cars and up were very reliable cars at that point, with the lim gaskets being the last update. I just like my 02's body styling a bit more, but all the other stuff about the 06 outweighs it.

Long story short. I owned a 99 Pontiac Firebird Formula. Loved that car.
anyways, I had it parked at a friends house and we were having a couple barley pops and doing some work on it, oil change, stuff like that.
It was on Jack stands...

A neighbor started fighting with the wife and carying on into the street, Kenny's mom and dad style, from South Park.
cops show up. Nobody gets arrested. One of the cops starts a convo with me about my car and before you know it I'm being arrested for DUI.

I sold that car to pay for a lawyer because it was BS and I thought I could fight it... WRONG! Ended up with fines and needing to have an interlock in a car for 6 months. Well I sold my car so now I need some hunk of whatever to put a damn breathalyzer in for the next half a year.

Some chick that worked at the same building as me said that her car had problems and that she would sell it to me for $500!

I payed her sight unseen and met her at her house with a flat bed. Got it home and parked it on the side of the house. It ran but had trany issues. I had an interlock put in that weekend lol. I would just go out and start it up 2 times a day to use the stupid breath thing so it would look good on the report.

did that for about 2 months and then decided to pop the hood. Low and behold, a blower! Scratching my head I thought, what the heck is this thing? After a little Google search... Turns out I bought a 99 GTP.
I've now dumped a chunk of change fixing it up and getting it running.

Im now in to it a set of 1.9 RR and springs, cooler plugs, 180 stat, CAI, full headers, 3.4 pulley, lowered springs and struts, 18"rims & new rubber, and now a stage 2 TEP build and soon to have a FSIC...

Whatadya know, I guess I'm a GTP guy now lol.

How do you get arrested for DUI when you aren't driving? And the car isn't driveable? Or is there more to the story?
 
has to be more to it....... they have to see you driving. or be in the car and in the driver seat with the keys in the ignition.
 
Theres nothing more to know besides the boring details. google arizona DUI laws lol.

If you, 1, have any alcohol in your system. 2, have car keys in your possession. 3, the car that the keys go to is within eye sight. Then here in Az your considered to be in a position of negligence and therefore guilty of DUI.

So to be totally clear, If you are drinking, and have keys in your pocket, and next to the car, and the cop is a special kind of jack ass, then you will get a DUI here. EVEN IF YOU WERE NOT DRIVING. Total BS!!!

As a matter of fact, the teacher of the stupid class they made me take said that he had a guy come through that got a DUI while working on his truck, WITH THE ENGINE OUT! Only in AZ.
 


Seriously! although that is one of the very few things that I dont like about AZ. Besides that and the 120+ degree summers. Its actually a great place.

I just dont drink at all if Im going to be anywhere near my car now lol.
