Who is a Combat Vet on here?

27D which is a paralegal with 1-211th AVN BN out of West Jordan Utah. were set to deploy next year cant wait to go. im in the Utah National Gaurd been in it for 2 1/2 years and im a PFC. i know bottom of the totem pole but gotta start somewhere

Army Officer, technically an Army Engineer, but I've only done that at one assignment. Beyond 8 years in :D and loved every one of em, with no end in sight.

Deployed to Iraq for 15 months from 06-07 doing similar things as American Soldier, conducting Route Clearance... looking for things that go boom ;)

I'm currently at an Army course and just received the list about an hour ago with 18 possible locations to move to 3 months from now. ...time to start whittling it down to the cool places.... Literally! the humidity in Alabama is no joke!

I've been all over, and since I haven't deployed in a while, I can expect to go downrange from my next assignment, but there's always exceptions. I really enjoyed being deployed, and would love to go again!

I personally love my career. There are so many different things you can do, and jobs you can hold. You really can do anything in the military, including become an Astronaut! After my next assignment I'm going to apply for grad school at the Naval Post-Graduate School in Monteray, California. If I'm selected, I'll have the unfortunate job of going to school everyday on the California Coast.... such a horrible assignment! (kidding of course).... although, my sister didn't enjoy her time there because ....it was foggy in the morning... yeah...wow... Now she's "stuck" in Savannah, Georgia, which is another great place to get assigned. (no American Soldier, not Stewart, Hunter Army Air Field).

I honestly don't see why some of you are considering leaving. I know it can suck sometimes (I slept on a table in a tent the first six months of my deployment), but remember, whatever you are doing will impact more people than you can ever count. While yeah, my unit handled lots and lots and lots of IEDs during our rotation, we directly impacted thousands of people, from all over the world by doing our job and completing the mission. There aren't many jobs out there that have such an impact on people as those in the military. Don't forget about ultimate job security!!

For those that are thinking about joining. Think hard about it, but I encourage you to join. Not because it's your civil right, but because it will grow and develop you, and you can see a direct impact on other people's lives. It's fun too!!

If anyone has any questions about the military, or anything else, feel free to shoot me a PM.

03GTPLE, ill never regret joining the Army..it turned me into a man and taught me alot. I enjoy the traveling, learning new cultures an shooting big guns but this tour ive seen 5 of my soldiers get blown up ( you know how it is) and seeing the guts, their body parts and hearing their screams stays with me everyday. I have two kids at home and i i gotta think about them too ya know? my son is only 3 weeks old, i want him to know me. I became ver bitter after getting stop-lossed as well, though im making equalivent to E-6 pay which isnt bad. The military is a good strong foundation for the rest of your life, i just cant see myself doing this for another 15 yrs. if anyone wants to join the army hit me up and ill answer any questions the recruiters will lie about lol..."Essayons, let us try, its how we live, its how we die"

Hey man, I don't blame you. My daughter was 10 days old when I left. Now I'm away for another 6 months.

I'll sent the rest in a PM :)

I hear you on leaving the little ones at home I just had a son in Feb, Tucker my first baby I should be home around begining of Dec. I volunteered to come to Afghanistan to backfill for some guys that went home for various reasons and plus the experience will help me because Im looking to get a Warrant Officer position before late 2012 when our next mission come up in Washington D.C
Great to hear about all the others in the military Ive been in since 2003 and will reenlist while Im here. I wouldnt change a thing Ive done career wise since I joined.

yea my daughter was 3 weeks old when i deployed for 15 months back in 07' and for this tour i left my son who was 1 day old..its gotta be the worst feeling ever, and ive had enough of it

95 Bravo (AASLT w/SPIES/FRIES)...and some other neat quals. ;) Went sight-pointing in Panama, Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Go ahead and run...you'll just die tired. :)

Thanks to the other grunts/jarheads/flyboys and squids that have done what they have to help preserve this hot mess of a country which I love. :)

being away from home so much is the hardest part. it was pretty much my deciding factor. being stationed in germany and deploying to afghanistan i haven't spent much time home in the past 2 years. granted i don't have kids right now, you guys with the little kids are the real strong ones, idk how you do it. I am however engaged and its been tough on both us trying to maintain our relationship (luckly ive got a pretty awsome girl) But my plans after this tour is to part ways with the military. I did my time and im going to move on to a new adventure in life, which most deffenatly will involve purchasing another Grand Prix.

Best, Lenny

oh and p.s. X2 on the recruiters and their lies. if you want real answers about the military, ask me or one of these other fine gentleman.
