I would of searched this but cant find the search bar. I have 05 GT cat was pluged so bolted new one on and good to go right...well for a few trips all was good..keep getting P0420 and desided to change rear O2 cause it was switching just like front one. started to un thread it and got stuck so just left it in and now when sitting idling for very short time and give er a shot of gas i could smoke out the whole parking lot WTF anyone got any ideas what is going on? Oh ya this car is new to me so dont know any of the history

Almost all aftermarket cats set a p0420 the white smoke is likely gas from your car running a car diagnostic. If your o2 is partially unscrewed it'll throw it off

Large cloud of white smoke is blown head gasket. The white smoke is steam from burning the coolant.

Blue please is burning oil.

Black smoke is unburned fuel.

the upper intake could be leaking as well, what happens in the N/a engine is the upper intake can leak into the engine, and cause the white smoke if bad enough, it can also leak coolant into the engine oil, and kill the engine.

so make sure you have only oil in the crank case, pull the dip stick if its all foamy and milk shake looking and over filled, the intake is leaking.

i checked all the plugs and nothing looks out of the norm.i would think atleast one of them would look all jacked up but all are clean. pluged in the scanner and the short term fuel trim b1-s2 is stuck at 99.2% weather it is ideling or under load

Sensor 2 will always be close to 100%. Rear sensors measure catalyst efficiency.

you want to look where the lower intake meets the heads, under the valve cover lip, or side. you looking to see the gasket. if its plastic, it will be black, if upgraded, it would be silver. silver ones are metal.

well i cought a really good wiff just now and smells like burnt oil. could the lower intake leak oil into the cylinder. looked and its black plastic. dose GM have an updated set that anyone knows of?

no push rod removal needed to do the lim, take the upper intake off, then the lower off. you'll want to drain the coolant first.

what the metal gaskets look like, these are acdelco i got from rockauto.

lim and upper intake off.

you dont even have to take the valve covers off, but its a good time to change them while its all apart.
