whiney engine tranny

i have an 01 gt 4dr 121,000 and when ever i go on the high way it makes a loud whiney sound from the engine when i hold the gas down in high gears and when i let off the whineing dies. plus my tranny will fade in and out. it will work emaculantely for a couple days then it will start to shift hard then go back to being good. never had it replaced and know its a lot of miles but. fluid is fine and everything. im selling it in a couple weeks just lookin for stuff to keep it working fine for a while

Does the whining go away when it isnt shifting harsh? Does it make the noise sitting still and revving the engine? Not exactly sure what you mean by "trans will fade in and out", are you saying the tach will jump up and down a few hundred rpms going down the highway?
