Which Threadlock to use?

I am ready to start re-assembling my LIM, UIM, etc. and I am wondering if you experienced people can give me some guidance on which sealant/threadlocker to use? The GM tech manual says to use GM #12345493 which is the same as RED Loctite #272 on the LIM bolts. This is the high strength Loctite and supposedly, you would need to use heat or special tools (?) if I needed to dis-assemble in the future. It seems like this is over-kill to me? What have you used? Is it working OK?

I am planning on using BLUE Loctite #242 on the UIM bolts.

Thanks for all the guidance you all have given me over the last couple of months on this project. I would not have been able to do it otherwise.

Just dont use the red threadlock on the bolts or next time you need to do any intake manifold repairs you will have an extremely hard time of breaking them loose or worse yet strip the aluminum threads in the manifold. You could also use a thread sealant as well.:th_thumbsup-wink:

The only time you want to use red loctite is if you never ever ever ever want to take the bolts out again. Blue loctite works well.

when i did my build i used a crap load of sealant and blue loctite

in class the permatex guy told us a story of a kid who used loc tire red on his tongue ring cause it kept coming loose:eek:
