Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Which head unit is better for me??

copgtp

Your ClubGP Liason
I'm putting out feelers to start to look for a new head unit. I'm still rocking the stocker..........and I think it's time for a change.

My requirements:

DVD player

Sound better than stock

Keep steering wheel controls functional

Play music from HD and/or Ipod

$300 or less

Now, there are two of them up for sale that I was looking at:

JVC KD-NX5000 DVD/navigation receiver at Crutchfield.com

or

Kenwood Excelon KVT-717DVD DVD/CD player with 7" video screen at Crutchfield.com

Which one of those would fit my needs better? Or do you have another suggestion?

I would personally go with the JVC. 1. because I dont like the looks of flip outs 2. it has built-nav 3. The Kenwood isnt showing to be steering wheel interface compatible. 4. The JVC is CEA2006 compliant. The only upside I see to the flip out is that its screen is larger. And is says it has 5v preouts, but its not CEA compliant so that probably isnt true.

You would need to add a KS-PD100 for Ipod connectivity and a PAC SWI-ALP for steering wheel controls for the JVC.
It doesnt look like the Kenwood has Ipod connectivity.

I personally own the NX5000...I use it in my Jeep. For what I paid it's an awesome unit. The screen looks small in the picture, but it's more than big enough to see. It also auto zooms during nav when you slow down which is a nice feature. The hard drive music storage takes a bit getting used to, but it certainly works well. The only downside I've had is that the maps are no longer updated. Otherwise, I'd recommend it to anyone.

Did you ever think about converting your dash to accept a double din? I think double dins look way better then flip outs..plus i've seen what you've done already to your car..I think double din would add another nice touch.

I was thinking about it actually, doesn't look like much work, only thing is I want the color to stay close to stock dash color. I don't want a bright red dash or anything.

I have the Pioneer avh-p4000...no complaints. Also check out SEM products as far as paint is considered they make some great colors to keep it oem looking.
