Hey gang. I have an 08 na 3.8l with 225 000 kms and I need to replace the cat.....again. I bought a walker cat but this time I'm thinking of spending more and buying the bosal cat. Just wondering if anyone used it on here andy how it worked out. I DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS AGAIN lol. But serves me right I guess cuz when I did my lim I didn't torque to it to spec and didn't goop the corners which killed the 1st one.

you would need a stock replacement or you'll get a cat code.

whats wrong with the one you got now? cant see no rtv in the corners of a lim killing a can. they need to run pig rich to kill one fast.

if you have a high flow cat now, thats the issue i bet. cars not gonna like that hi flow cat.

you got a code for a cat?
 
I think he means the engine was burning a lot of coolant with a improper install of the LIM. Lots of coolant or oil burning will wipe out the converters faster than some think.
 
The cat is plugged from coolant andy a ridiculous amount of oil being burned by the lim job done wrong. The can't get the car over 3500 rpm. I just want cheapest fix possible. But yet I need it work right. If I delete the cat amd get a code would that effect gas mileage and overall performance of the engine?
 


Yes, no cat will always cause a code and poor mileage in your year car.

I say either cat will work, a new walker or the bosal cat. Both have warranties too.
 
I bought a ebay high flow cat and use the spark plug nonfouler trick to pull the 02 sensor out of the exhaust stream a little to not get a light.
 
Just shy of 6 years of use, and still doing its job.....

yep that's why i went with a bosal one once. no u-bend. I've been running a zzp cat-less downpipe for years and I love it cause I'll never have to worry about a cat again. Obviously I have a tune to eliminate the light along with other things.
 


Can't speak for Walker or Bosal cat converters although I can tell you Bosal did make the factory catback for our cars (at least on the Grand Prix GT/GTPs). From my personal experience though I used the cat that came with the SLP headers. The first one lasted about 2 years. The 2nd one lasted about 6 years. After that 2nd SLP cat I couldn't find anymore available out there so I went with a Magnaflow hi-flow universal cat. I've had that one about 5 years so far no issues. The aftermarket units are kind of a mixed bag. I would go with one that has a better warranty
