Where's the "Speed Control Sensor"?

My '98 3.8L GT automatic started shifting hard. Seems to be a common problem. It shifts hard on acceleration and you can feel it downshift as you come to a stop. My "service engine soon" light popped on right away. And the speedometer stopped working. I'm not done yet. The eratic shifting caused the engine to stall several times. Once while exiting a tight freeway ramp and twice on city streets, also while going into a tight turn. And this is driving it very mellow. No hot rodding. So I took it to a shop and had 2 codes come up. 1. Speed Control Sensor and 2. Oxygen Sensor
The mechanic said that the SCS needs to be replaced and the tranny should get serviced. I figured maybe $200. Na ah. He quoted me $350 for the sensor, filter, fluid and labor. For me, that hurts especially when I just forked out $180 for tires. My question is where "exactly" is that sensor located on the tranny? I can't find a picture showing it's location anywhere. The damn thing is the size of my thumb. I would rather pay $80 for the part and install it myself. I'll do the flush when it's tax time. Thanks to anyone that can help. I have another issue with my rear defogger which I have questions on in the electrical part of the forum. HL70 Bill
