Where to ground amp?

I just bought a 400 watt amp for my 04 Grand Prix GT, and I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a good spot in the trunk to ground it. My amp is closer to the rear seats, and i only have about 2.5 feet of wire

I'm not an audio guy, for some reason the strut bolt doesn't sit well with me as a good ground. My thought on that is.. struts aren't 100% weatherproof, the bolts corrode, the area inside the car is known to rust and that's not a good long term ground.

I went to one of the main achors for the back seat. It's interior, clean and always dry there. Plus is was super close to my amp.

the strut tower is a fairly structural point, which makes it a good spot.

My 05 has 95k w/ 75k spent on michigans salt roads and the last 20k spent in salt air on the beach. No corosion left.

Sand down your grounding point, bolt it down, and paint it up to seal it. You shouldn't have to worry about rust. it took me a healthy bit of sanding just to get to metal on mine.

Strut bolt works, just make sure where any part of the bolt seats, that there's metal to metal contact. As mentioned, remove the paint there. Use a dialectric grease too on the surface, between bolt and washer, stud, whatever on that point that you ground. If no grease is available, simple petroleum jelly is ok as it will keep out moisture. This and you're good to go!
: )

I use dialectric grease on all my grounds and electrical connections under hood, at battery and alt too. Reduces chances for crap faulty grounds. ; )

I don't ground to something my mechanic has to move to replace a strut...or that's been a known source of issues on 97-03's..lol

It's all good though.. keep taking the easy way out guys.

Your ground is bad and you should feel bad
